Daniel Hannon
Daniel "Dan" Neil Hannon was born March 28, 1961, in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, the third of five sons of Jane and Bill Hannon. While growing up in Nashville, Dan attended Overbrook School and Montgomery Bell Academy before leaving for Athens to attend his beloved University of Georgia.
While standing in a ticket line for a Georgia game, Dan met Laura Hutchinson who would turn out to be the love of his life. They married in the summer of 1985, shortly after Dan completed his MBA at The Owen School at Vanderbilt. They headed to Houston and began their great Texas adventure. An opportunity to work with his father took them back to Lawrenceburg, where their first child, Michael, was born. But Houston called them back where they spent the next 30-plus years. Their second child, Kristin, was born in Houston.
Dan had great financial acumen and his career in the energy business thrived with this expertise. He and Laura retired to St. Simons Island several years ago to be near their daughter's family.
Dan had special gifts. He built and nurtured deep relationships with family and friends. He kept up with old friends and was a master at making new friends feel welcome. His arms were open and stretched far and near, and all that knew him felt the warmth.
Dan's competitive spirit was legendary. He loved athletic pursuits, whether it was the Iron Man, the years of Mancation bike trips in Healdsburg and Aspen, marathons, spades, gin rummy - and of course supporting all things that involved the Dawgs.
Dan loved the Lord. He was active in his diocese, his home church St. William, and in his bible study group, the "E-Dudes," that have been together for over 30 years.
Dan received the greatest joy from family. His wife, his children and his precious grandson were the center of his world - Laura, Urban Michael Hannon and Kristin Hannon Kinsley (Nick) and their son, Thomas Andrew Kinsley.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Jane Powell Hannon and William Murray Hannon; and his brother, Christopher Taylor Hannon.
He is survived by his wife, children and grandson; his brothers, Thomas Murray Hannon, John Clarence Hannon (Carolyn) and Robert Caperton Hannon (Lloyd); his sisters-in-law, Jennifer Obremskey Hannon and Holly Simmons (John); his brothers-in-law, Kenneth Hutchinson (Dawn) and Marcus Hutchinson (Kay); and his nieces and nephews who felt his love his entire life, William Hannon (Mary Julia), Janie Hannon Pearson (William), Avery Hannon, Mary Kate Hannon Buell (Brian), Halina Hannon, Caroline Hannon, Megan Hannon, Murray Hannon, Ivey Hannon, Jim Moore (JoJo), Kate Winters (Adam), Drew Hutchinson, Heather Clark (Ryan), Ally Diesch (Scotty), Anna Simmons, Eli Hutchinson, Sarah Grace Hutchinson and Olivia Hutchinson; and many great cousins; wonderful great-nieces and great-nephews; and much loved godchildren.
