Born in Hazleton, he was the son of Joan McAfee and the late Claire McAfee. Dan was employed by Philips Lighting of Mountain Top and served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Dans last moment with me was an act of kindness and friendship. Proud to have known him. Have a beer in heaven for me Dan.

I never got to meet Dan in person, just by phone, but I knew his heart. He would talk to me as though he knew me all our lives. He would let me know how the girls were doing, and what was happening with the family. I felt the compassion, humor, and love that he was all about. I know how much love he had for you, Melissa, Katie and the kids. To him you were is world. In my mind and in my heart he will always be my brother-in-law and his love will always be here for you. Dan was more than just a father to me. He provided many happy years to my mother, my children were his grandchildren and he was their "Pop Pop". You hurt one of them.. watch out.
