WREN, Daniel Phillip Daniel Phillip Wren of Westbrook, died Tuesday, (June 15, 2004) at Stamford Hospital. He was 94 years old. Mr. Wren was born in Hartford on October 6, 1909, the son of Michael J. Wren and Helena Courtney Wren. As a young child, he moved to Westbrook, his father's hometown and lived there for the remainder of his life. After graduating from Hand High School in Madison he received a degree in philosophy from Fordham University in 1930. In 1951, he married Bernadette Lyons. She died in 1965. Mr. Wren was actively involved in his community. He served on the Westbrook Board of Finance for 26 years, many of them as chairman. He was also a member of the High School Building Committee, the Conservation Commission, the Economic Development Commission and the Democratic Town Committee. Mr. Wren was a parishioner of St. Mark RC Church in Westbrook. He was a founding member of the parish and served as one of its first trustees. On June 24, 1981, the Town of Westbrook recognized Mr. Wren for his many years of dedicated service to his community by designating the day "Daniel P. Wren Day". A local park was also named in his honor. Mr. Wren was also an avid bicyclist who in his retirement, completed numerous bike trips from his Westbrook home to Vermont, New Hampshire and Quebec. Besides his wife, Mr. Wren was predeceased by his sister, Eileen Wren. He is survived by his daughter, Judith A. Wren of New Canaan. A funeral procession will leave at 10:45 a.m. Saturday, June 19 from the Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Rd., Old Saybrook followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Mark's Church. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Westbrook.
