Captain Danny Nelms has gone on to glory and what a true saint God has on the rolls for the call of duty. As many I just today google him only to discover his passing 7 years ago. I had the pleasure of serving with Captain Nelms in New Orleans, Louisiana back in 1997. He and I served as President and Vice President of the African American Committee. Captain Nelms´ leadership led our people to achieve success in many capacities - but most importantly, self value. In his spare...

I saw a post today, it told of your passing. I was ssdden to hear. My deepest condolences to your family. I never had the honor of serving with you but I will remember your kindness forever. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, sense of humor, and your love of black history. You absolutely played a role in shaping my Naval career..... The first Black Captain. I ever met. You threw more ropes and paved the way for many of us...Rest in Peace Captain Nelms.

I knew LTJG Danny Nelms when he was my division office back in San Diego in the mid 70s I just recently found some of my old Navy paperwork and found his name so I thought I would try to locate him to say hello. He was the C.I.C. officer on the U.S.S Anchorage LSD 36 and I was one of the senior Operations Specialist onboard. I can still remember his smile and personality. He was still a young office then and I was responsible for teaching him how we operated. We talked a lot in those days...

Danny, you will be loved forever. ..
Last night I had the weirdest dream. I dreamt Danny visited me in the city he hated. The dream was strange, sweet, gentle and caring. I could not understand the reason I had the dream as it was the first time I dreamed of Danny. Later, as I recalled the dream something told me to search his name and obituary. I am truly hurt and wished I knew sooner. I will forever cherish my memories of my dear loving friend.
