David BOONE Obituary

BOONE, David William David Wm. Boone died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on March 13, 2018. He was 63 years old. David was born in Frankfurt Germany on September 23, 1954 to Col. Sam and Ruth Boone. David is survived by his wife, Simone Siex Boone, daughters Lucy-Marie (Chadwick) Brantley and Madeleine (Allen) Bobango, grandson, Chadwick, Jr., and a host of loving family members and friends. David loved his family, he loved his friends, and he loved life. Above all, he was devoted to his Angel, Simone. He was passionate about his daughters, ensuring they were the kind, giving, confident young women they are today. He was proud of his sons-in-law, ecstatic about his grandson, and eagerly awaited his second grandchild. He ardently embraced the family he chose. David knew no strangers and believed the best in each of them - he was a friend, mentor and brother to many, generously sharing his time and experience to enrich, encourage and uplift. He celebrated life each day with quick wit, a song, or a story. Whether flying, boating, fishing, playing with his dog, or sharing a toast at five, his enthusiasm infected everything he did and everyone he touched. Both at home and at work, he was a tireless lifetime advocate for others. He grew up in Winter Park, Florida, attending Winter Park High School. He graduated from the University of Central Florida ("UCF," previously the Florida Technological University), then graduated with a Juris Doctorate, Cum Laude, from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in 1978. David had an illustrious career as one of the top civil trial lawyers in the country, culminating in the prestigious Pursuit of Justice Award by the American Bar Association and the Guardian of Justice award by the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association; though his true reward was the joy he received from helping others. He was board certified as a Civil Trial Lawyer at the state and national level. He was recognized in distinction as a Fellow of the National College of Trial Advocacy where he served as a faculty member as early as 1986. David was a Barrister in the International Society of Barristers and had been recognized as a Georgia Super Lawyer and in Best Trial Lawyers in America for numerous years. David actively served the trial bar in many capacities, including as a member and President of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association, a member of the American Association for Justice and a director of its Endowment Board, member of the American Bar Association, Sustaining Member of the Florida Association for Justice, and as a member of the Board of Directors for the Attorneys Information Exchange Group (AIEG). David served as a President and a Director of the Georgia Civil Justice Foundation, a nonprofit corporation founded by the Georgia Supreme Court for the purpose of educating consumers and preserving the United States Civil Justice System. David was also involved on the boards of both profit and nonprofit entities outside the legal arena. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the UCF Foundation, on the Board of the New Orleans Wine and Spirits Education Foundation, a past Director of the Georgia Brain Injury Association, and served as interim President of Global Photonic Energy Corporation. David was the Founder and first President of CLAWS (Civil Lawyers Against World Sex-Slavery), a non-profit organization that uses the civil justice system on behalf of the survivors of sex slavery. An active general aviation pilot, David combined his love of flying with his love of law. He held an Airline Transport Pilot certificate with a Cessna Citation C500 type rating and a Commercial Pilot license for single engine land and sea. He served as general counsel for and represented numerous air taxi operators and general aviation fixed base operations in Georgia and Florida. David was a member of the congregation of the Cathedral of St. Philip, where he served as a weekly lay reader during Morning Prayer for twenty years. The Celebration of Life for David will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at the Episcopal Cathedral of St. Philip, 2744 Peachtree Rd. NW, Atlanta GA 30305. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be sent to either: (1)Piedmont Healthcare Foundation, 2001 Peachtree Road, NE, Suite 400, Atlanta, GA 30309 404-605-2130 . My heartfelt sympathy to all who have lost this wonderful human being and true beacon of light, but most especially to Simone, Lucy and Maddy.
David and I go back to the early 1980's in Ft. Lauderdale when I shared with him a difficult case that resulted in his first multimillion dollar verdict. The result was terrific, but it was his depth of caring for the client in that case that truly set him apart.
In 2016 my wife was diagnosed with GBM. David personally took charge and arranged for the best in medicine at Duke to care for her. I will be eternally grateful for his help. And this in the middle of his own courageous battle.
May you rest in peace my dear friend.

To Simone, Lucy and Maddy especially and to all friends in Davids realm, I offer my deepest sympathy for our great loss.

Twenty years ago, I received a phone call from a Florida lawyer who subsequently flew Boone air to meet with me regarding what he deemed a meritorious case. Several hours after our meeting, after he had drunk his first martini, eaten his first Philadelphia cheese steak, and watched his first professional baseball game, a true bonding had occurred. I even invited him to stay in my home which he kindly and in a most gentlemanly way, refused. And, one year later that case resulted in his first million-dollar judgement.

I had no idea how this friendship would grow. I did contribute in my own way to the friendship, introducing David to the world of neurology, Jewish dietary traditions and Yiddish, e.g. whitefish salad, chopped liver and kibbitz, kvetch, mishegas, chutzpah etc. However, to me the most important word of all, was mensch, a word translated to mean one of honor and integrity, a word truly emblematic of David William Boone.

Davids contribution to our friendship was complex; he taught me how humility and intellect could coexist. David was like a magnet, knowing the right direction and attracting enumerable people to him, some admiring his keen knowledge and practice of the law, some drawn to him because of his intense concern for his fellowman, and some attracted to his charming, unassuming and warm personalitysome to all three. He was truly a man for all seasons.

David, Simone and I traveled to Machu Pichu and the Galapagos and I purchased a hand crafted Peruvian coffee cup for myselfand one for David (please forgive me Simone, I should have bought three). After our return, David and I, on Sunday mornings, began text toasting to our friendship with our coffee cups. I so miss those special timesand my very special friend!
