David Deberry

Many memories in Richmond Va attending games at the Richmond Colisieum and time with Jon and David.

Dr. David DeBerry admonished me, kindly, to dress in coat and tie for the annual conference, to never forget that I was from John Stewart Church. His undying commitment to Black people, his love for the church and his faith in God for liberation were undeniable. A great mind and quick wit, we miss him, even now.

My Prayer for Jon (and for us all)

Almighty God, The One who loves and cares for us in all seasons of our lives, we praise You and adore You. In grief may we find hope and in death may we be reminded of your resurrection power. We pray for peace and strength O God. Surround us with comfort and companionship as only You can do. Unite us in love and compassion as we draw closer to You. Philippians 4:8-9

The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.

Dr. DeBerry touched so many lives. My children and I express our deepest sympathy to you in your loss. We will never forget Dr. DeBerry and his kindness while we were members of Bland Street UMC in Bluefield and his words of encouragement and his laughter. Jon and David, you know how we felt about your father. I just wish he could have moved to The Marque sooner so we could have had a longer time with him . . . but we all feel blessed that we had the time we did.
