David Lynn Evans, age 75, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2025, surrounded by love. Born on September 20, 1949, in Munford, Tennessee, David was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose warmth and generosity left a lasting imprint on everyone he met.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Farrow Evans and Hazel White Evans, and by his cherished older brother, William Larry Evans, who gave his life in service during the Vietnam War.
David is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Jessica Ray Evans; his three children, Heather Evans Gerzetich (Nick), Holly Evans Mallory (Drew), and Michael Evans; and his four grandchildren, Alex, Carter, Marly, and Presley. He is also survived by his brother Kenny Evans (Christie), along with many extended family members and dear friends who will hold his memory close.
David dedicated many years of his career to Memphis Light, Gas & Water, contributing his skills and work ethic to the community he loved. He served his country proudly in the Tennessee Army National Guard from 1969 to 1975, where he was a Specialist in Field Artillery.
A true Memphian at heart, David was passionate about the Memphis Tigers, Memphis barbecue, and spreading holiday cheer each year as Santa’s “Special Helper”—a role that brought him great joy. One of his greatest pleasures in life was spending time with his son and best friend, Michael.
David was larger than life—fiercely loving, endlessly hardworking, and unfailingly kind. His presence lit up every room, and his boundless compassion made everyone feel like family. He leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty, and generosity that will be forever treasured.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in David’s memory to Danny Cosby Ministries via Hope Church Memphis, 8500 Walnut Grove Road, Cordova, TN 38018 or to St. Jude’s Memorial Giving, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
