Melinda, I was so very sorry to hear of Dave's passing. He was a good friend and a great American. I was honored to have the pleasure of knowing him and working with him. I'll never forget his guidance and help during those early days of the Bush campaign in 1988, and his continuing friendship and advice in the years after. David and his brother Jack (and their parents Uncle David and Aunt Vivian) were just part of family life to my sister Nancy and me as we grew up in Norfolk, Va. The Fitzgerald extended family was close and loving and got together often, especially on holidays. And even though we grew apart in later life, I was still shocked and saddened to see David's picture in the obituaries yesterday.
