David Fontenot Obituary

David passed away suddenly in the early morning of Monday, October 6, 2014. He was born in Baton Rouge in 1957 where he lived all his life, with the exception of a five-year corporate transfer to Tampa, Florida, where he met his wife, Kitty. David, his wife, and children returned to Baton Rouge in 1992. His career has always been in the finance industry, from collections with Hibernia National Bank to his current position as Vice President, Private Banking Underwriting Manager at Capital One Bank, where he was admired and respected by all who worked with him. He's a graduate of Catholic High where he was a member of the '75 State Wrestling Championship team and attended LSU. David was a loving son, the most wonderful husband, a very loving and patient father, a great and helpful neighbor, and terrific friend. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and an energetic LSU fan. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Catherine (Kitty) Fontenot; his daughter, Lauren Fontenot Bottomley and husband, Tim; his son, Ryan Fontenot and girlfriend, Rachel Combetta; father, Cary Fontenot and wife, Gwen; brother, Randy Fontenot and wife, Nan; sister, Stephanie Stengl and husband, Robert; step-son, Scott Imrich and wife, Morgan; stepdaughter, Amy Cyment and husband, Dave; step-sister, Gretchen Varnell; two granddaughters, Sydney and Ellie; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and lots and lots of friends. He is preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Fontenot and brother, Rusty Fontenot. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 from 5PM-9PM. Visitation will resume on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church (2025 Stuart Ave. Baton Rouge, La.) at 9AM until mass of Christian burial at 10AM. Interment will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. David…you have left a very large hole in our hearts. You will be missed. But our loss is surely heaven's gain. Kitty, Mr.Cary, Randy, and all the Fontenot family: when I heard David's name at Mass this morning, I hoped it was the other David Fontenot. I did not hear about it earlier in the week, and I regret not being there to support your family. I have seen David at the CHS BBQ the past few years, and it was good to catch up with him there each year. Know that my prayers are with you all in this difficult time.
