David FRANER Obituary

News Death Notice

FRANER, David Lee 83, born July 31, 1932, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his residence in Washington Township on Thursday, July 28, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents Ephrain Franer and Pauline Domb of Dayton. He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Marilyn J. Collmer. From a previous marriage, he is survived by his daughter Karen Brennan (Mrs. Kevin), her children Julie Smith (Mrs. Chad); Josh (Jackie) Shively, Nick (Katie) Shively; Dave's son Allen Franer and his son Neil Jr.; also daughter Sharon Davoody-Love (deceased) and her children Abe and Sarah Davoody; and Dave's daughter Paula Franer (deceased). Dave followed in his father's footsteps and was a manufacturing engineer. In addition to taking classes at the University of Dayton and Sinclair Community College, he was self-taught in CAD/CAM engineering design software. He was an avid reader, loved electronics, and was a history buff and worked daily to conquer his iPhone! Dave was an Army veteran and a proud, lifelong resident of Dayton. He was an entrepreneur and inventor who owned and managed many small businesses as well as worked for Dayton's major machine companies. He enjoyed complex problems especially design issues and colleagues called upon him to help solve problems. He had great tenacity and persistence, was kind and generous and was available to provide assistance to whoever needed it. Dave had a wide variety of interests that included real estate and property management and was a member of the Greater Dayton Real Estate Investor's Association. He loved to cook and was famous for his baked crusted chicken, cabbage rolls and brownie cheesecake pie! Ballroom dancing was his passion and hobby, and he was accomplished and talented. Marilyn and Dave met while they were ballroom dancing and travelled the Midwest and Canada for dances, instruction and competitions. He especially enjoyed social dancing and camaraderie of friends and fellow dancers. Even though Dave was quiet and reserved most of the time, he had a great sense of humor and his eyes sparkled as soon as the music started and he began dancing! Memberships included: Dayton Ballroom Dance Club, '76 Dance Club, Swing 'N Sway Dance Club, and Dancetonians, where he was a founding board member. The family wants to express deep appreciation to the Washington Township EMTs; Kettering Hospital; Graceworks at Home nurses, therapists and staff; Bethany Village Rehab Center; Lincoln Park Rehab Center; St. Leonard's Rehab Center; Home Instead; and all his doctors and nurses for their professionalism, support, and loving compassionate care and assistance. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Friday, August 5, 2016 at Tobias Funeral Home-Far Hills Chapel. Burial to follow at Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6-8 pm, Thursday, August 4, 2016 at TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME-FAR HILLS CHAPEL, 5471 Far Hills Avenue (Route 48) Dayton, OH 45429. Clutches N Such, Met Dave from an internet search and he gladly helped me along when I was building my first kart racing engine dyno. He will be certainly missed by the many that he helped. Thank You Dave! Many Condolences to your family.

I only met David once but I know his wife Marilyn quite well. Any man who was lucky enough to have captured Marilyn's heart had to be a lovely person. My prayers are with the family.

I am so sorry for Marilyn and all of Dave's family. Dave so loved his dancing and I, as well as my 2 daughters enjoyed dancing with him many times. Did he ever sit one out? haaa I don't think so. He was a true lover of dance. With my sympathy, Joann Fabry
