Ingalls family, my condolences for your loss. I encountered this page as I was searching for information on Ms. Ingalls, who was my mother´s (Jane Wells Long, from east Tennessee) friend and voice classmate at Northwestern in the 1950s.

In the early '60's my father designed a home for Mr. Ingalls in Baldwin Hills on Don Alegre. It was in a Mid-Century Modern Japanese-influenced style and situated on a partial slope with expansive views of Los Angeles to the north. I visited it once as a young child and recall the extensive use of wood on the interior, the varying floor levels, and the books within Mr. Ingalls private study. I first met David (and Kay) when i was the executive director of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and he was a trustee. I had the pleasure and honor of working with him in the 80s and 90s in Los Angeles. After my tenure it was so wonderful to stay in touch with David and Kay sharing our interest in music and books. It was fun to visit them in Santa Fe after their move. David's wisdom, kindness, and passion for the arts made him a perfect trustee and patron. David and Kay together were...

David was my junior high school English teacher in Los Angeles in the early 1960s. I remember him as a charming if somewhat eccentric gentlemen who was then engaged to be married (and very excited about it) and drove a Citroen DS. How delightful to learn about his long and fulfilling life!
