McNally & Watson Funeral & Cremation Service - Clinton Obituary

CLINTON, MA/COFFEYVILLE, KS/TULSA, OK

David L. Marang, 58, died Saturday, August 1, 2020, in Clinton Hospital, Clinton, MA, after being stricken ill at home.

He leaves the love of his life, his high school sweetheart, and wife of 10 years, Erin M. (Keenan) Marang; a daughter, Heather Malroney, and her husband, Beau, of Jenks, OK; his mother, Sandra (Gilbert) Ewing, of Tulsa, OK; a brother, Darrin Marang, and his wife, Melanie, of Tulsa, OK; a step-brother, Nick Ewing, and his wife, Debbie, of MN; and two grandchildren, Aiden and Lily Malroney.  He was predeceased by his father, Larry Manrang, and his step-father, Michael Ewing.

Dave was born in Coffeyville, KS, and raised there during his early childhood, before the family relocated to Omaha, NE. He was a graduate of Central High School, Omaha, and matriculated to the US Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD, where he was training to be a Systems Engineer. It was during his junior year, in 1983, that those plans were derailed by an accident, which left him disabled, and led to his honorable discharge from the Navy.

Though in a different capacity, Dave continued to serve, as a regular volunteer at the Hudson Community Food Pantry, for many years until the time of his death. A true “science geek,” he enjoyed all things science-related, from the Big-Bang, to outer space, biology, physics, and all things in-between.

Funeral services with Military Honors will be privately attended. A live stream of the service will be available to those who wish to attend virtually, on Friday, August 14, 2020, at 1:00 pm EDT/12:00 pm CDT.  In lieu of flowers, the Marang family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Hudson Food Pantry, 28 Houghton St., Hudson, MA  01749. Arrangements are in the care of McNally & Watson Funeral Home, 304 Church St., Clinton, MA.  To share a memory of Dave, or offer condolences to his family, please sign the Guest Book.

Not sure what to say?

Dave,
Our hearts are broken to lose you! 2 years ago you moved in next door and immediately we knew we were the lucky ones! Thank you for always finding love and joy in Emily and Bens adventures and welcoming them always. Oh and thank you for finding the shoes and toys left behind. We will watch over Erin as I know you are. Erin I hope you forever feel his love wrapped around you. We keep you and all of Dave’s family in our thoughts and prayers.
Love,
Keith, Audrey,...

Special guy to all of us in Thirsty Third. A friend to all he met. Always there with a smile and a laugh. He got me through “Electrical Engineering” and I got him through “Middle East Politics”. Certainly not a fair trade! Rest In Peace, my friend!

My dear son, David, words cannot tell you how much I loved you, I will miss our phone calls it was always so good to talk and laugh with you. You were my first born, and a great child and so much fun to talk with you, I know you were so happy with Erin. I am sure Dad was waiting for you with open arms in Heaven and is showing you around. I loved you dearly and I am having such a hard time putting this into words. Seems like you always handled all the things that were handed to you. I am...

Dave inspired me during my formative years and it still carries on to this day. He and I attended Central High School together, and he possessed a unique mix of brilliance and humility, with a huge helping of excellent humor topping it off. He was a brainiac; you don't become vice president of Math Club by being slow on the uptake. But before you could write him off as a nerd, his smile and fun personality would grab you and hold on. He was funny as hell, and just plain fun to be around. ...

Love & prayers to your family. His goofy laugh will be missed So many good memories. The boy next door. Just know he's playing cards & dominos with my mom & dad & jamming with Jerry Garcia & spending time with his Dad's. He is lookig down on you and will keep you all safe. Love & prayers to all his family and friends in this time of grief. Until we meet again. Love Dee Dee Rogers

Dear Erin, I am sorry for the loss of your husband. I am glad you were able to reconnect in the past years, and it is a blessing that Dave spent his last decade with his true love. His affection for you while at the Academy was evident, and you should know he often spoke of his high school sweetheart. I also remember his fondness for science fiction... and a game (or two) of cribbage . Though I never did understand “A Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy,” he did, and his laugh was truly...

Oh, Erin and Marang Family - I wish there was a way to lessen your grief! I'm sure a flood of lovely memories and stories will surround you in the days ahead... to be the bridge to carry you over the chasm of grief. I remember how enamored Erin and Dave were in the "young years" and all of the dreams that lay ahead. I will pray for Dave's soul in his journey to heaven. I especially pray for those on earth who most need the comfort and peace during this transition: Erin and the Marang family....

Dear Erin, I am so sorry about Dave’s passing. It is so unfair that your time with him was cut short after all the trials you two endured. Your love and dedication two one another are an inspiration. May your loving memories bring you some measure of comfort. Please know there are many people who love and support you.

In memory of our kind, smart, humorous shipmate. Dave’s calm nature, diligent example, and ability to put things into perspective made plebe year easier and life at the academy better. Military members have a history of assigning corny nicknames to each other - it was an honor serving with our friend “Lemon”. Thoughts and prayers are with his family.
