Not sure what to say?

Mr. Margetts, You touched my life beyond words. You were my teacher all through my High School years, and the concertos and Bach, as well as Flesch scales, and more etudes than I could count have stayed with my to this day. I learned so much about how to teach from you, and I find myself trying to figure some out, in much the same way you did. I love teaching, and you played a very large part in the manner in which you taught. I am so glad I reached out to you when I did. I just had to...

Dr. David Margetts was my violin teacher while I was a student at Chapman. I am ever so grateful for Dr. Margetts knowledge and energy while learning during my lessons. I really wish I could visit with Dr. MARGETTS once again and discuss outer space and music.

David Margetts - I think about you often, especially when I review pieces like the Mendelssohn violin concerto, the Bach solo sonatas and partitas, and the many F. Kreisler pieces that you so carefully marked with fingerings and bowings. Or, when I read your letters to me that I still have and the recordings you sent to me of your playing. You are always in my heart as a truly remarkable violinist and person. Love to you and your family. And thank you for all you did for me. xoxo Julieann...

I played quartets every Friday night with Dave Margetts and my violist father. My immersion in the quartet literature from my early teens paved the way for all good things in my musical life. I am now 71, active in Japan as a concert cellist, teacher, and recording artist; and remember with gratitude my many musical evenings with Dave Margetts, a remarkable presence in my early life.

Mr. Margetts gave me violin lessons at Chapman College in the 1970's. I was in the 4th grade. At the time I was considered a child prodigy, so they sent me to him. When I told my violin teacher at my regular school that my teacher at Chapman was David Margetts, she almost fell off her chair. "You got David Margetts??" I no longer play, but I truly appreciate that I got to learn from such a talented man.

Dr. David Margetts was my violin teacher at Chapman College for two years, from 1979-1981. Not only was David a fabulous violinist who thought out every phrase and nuance in his performances, but he was also a fabulous teacher. It was unfortunate for me that I only had two years with him before leaving for the East Coast to study at Peabody Conservatory.
However, we kept in touch, and I was privileged to receive some of his recordings. Lucky me! I have listened to them time and time and...

David Margetts and I played quartets every Friday night with my father, violist David Rosen, for many years. We even did the complete Haydn cycle of 83 quartets over the course of several of these years, one or two every week. Quartets with Dave Margetts formed the musical backbone of my life and I continue to enjoy my cello career.

I was a violin student of Dr Margetts in Fresno for 6 or 7 years during the late 80's and early 90's. He taught me so much and I owe my musicianship to him. I'm so sorry that I just found out he passed away just tonight. I wished I could have stayed better in touch. I have a lot of his maticulously marked music. They are a treasure to me. If a family member reads this, please mail me.
Sincerely, Bruce Chan
