I met David Nieves though work. I first saw him while attending Civilian In-Service training, he was pacing around outside role-playing a disgruntled citizen, which was a part of our active shooter training that day. I am so thankful that I was able to spend a few hours with him at the beach while he was working the Ocean frontJuly 4th. I hadn't seen David in over 2 years, however it's like we never missed a beat. We laughed, joked and broke bread. He was full of life and almost seemed invincible with his infectious laugh and smile. He will be sorely missed, and his legacy will live on by others he inspired and helped throughout his life. We will never forget!

I did not know MPO Nieves, but I think our community lost one of our better angels. I offer my deepest respect and condolences to his family and his brothers and sisters in Blue. Robbie

He even offered to facilitate the Active Threat Civilian Response Training. At the time, we declined because we didn't think our faculty and staff were ready for that level of training. MPO Nieves' reply was, "That's OK. I'll be back, either to do the workshop or to draw chalk-lines.." From that moment on he...
