I HAVE WRITTEN MY BEST WORDS TO A BOWDOIN CLASSMATE. AS A CLASSMATE AND FRIEND OF DAVID'S HIS PASSING COMES AT A TIME WHEN WE NEED TO FOLLOW HIS EXAMPLE AND DEFINE THE 'COMMON GOOD'. I LAST SPOKE WITH DAVID AT THE 50TH CLASS REUNION AT BOWDOIN COLLEGE, THIS PAST JUNE. THE MINOR OBSERVATION FROM MY TRAINED MEDICAL EYE FOCUSED ON A SLIGHT PALENESS, ONLY. WE MUST STOP AND CONSIDER HOW THIS PERSON CONDUCTED HIMSELF AT A TIME WHEN HE WAS PLANNING FOR HIS PLACE IN GOD'S SPIRITUAL KINGDOM. ...

I have some very fond memories of working with David while I was at J&H.
He was always very interested in how things were progressing in the Portland ME office and particularily enjoyed being at BIW because we had to travel through Brunswick. He leaves a tremendous legacy and I truly hope you and your family can find solace in that fact.

I am so very truly sorry to learn about David's passing. Though I haven't seen him in many years, I have numerous found memories of him and his family through my longtime friendship with his daughter, Amy Hess. Despite his countless achievements and tireless philanthropic efforts, David always had a kind word for me whenever we met, as well as an open door. I am really very honored to have known him, more than I can express, and I know that his passing will leave a terrible void in the hearts...
