I HAVE WRITTEN MY BEST WORDS TO A BOWDOIN CLASSMATE. AS A CLASSMATE AND FRIEND OF DAVID'S HIS PASSING COMES AT A TIME WHEN WE NEED TO FOLLOW HIS EXAMPLE AND DEFINE THE 'COMMON GOOD'. I LAST SPOKE WITH DAVID AT THE 50TH CLASS REUNION AT BOWDOIN COLLEGE, THIS PAST JUNE. THE MINOR OBSERVATION FROM MY TRAINED MEDICAL EYE FOCUSED ON A SLIGHT PALENESS, ONLY. WE MUST STOP AND CONSIDER HOW THIS PERSON CONDUCTED HIMSELF AT A TIME WHEN HE WAS PLANNING FOR HIS PLACE IN GOD'S SPIRITUAL KINGDOM. DAVIS APPEARED NATURAL SMILING WITH A SENSE OF EASE. HE AND HIS FAMILY PUT WALLS TO THE ETERNAL SEARCH FOR "THE COMMON GOOD' BY ESTABLISHING A PHYSICAL CENTER FOR THEIR PURSUIT AT BOWDOIN. HE IS AND WILL REMAIN 'THE CONSUMMATE BOWDOIN CLASSMATE', WHO AT A TIME WHEN ILLNESS, STRESS AND UNCERTAINTY FOR MOST,WAS OVERCOME WITH HIS ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF HIS TEAM: BOBBIE AND CHILDREN,THE COLLEGE, HIS CLASSMATES, ADMINISTRATION AND FACULTY, UNDERGRADUATES AND THE MANY GENERATIONS TO COME WHO WILL PRACTICE HIS LEGACY FOR AS LONG AS BOWDOIN COLLEGE STANDS. MAY HIS MEMORIY AND DEEDS BE ETERNAL

Bobbie,
I have some very fond memories of working with David while I was at J&H.
He was always very interested in how things were progressing in the Portland ME office and particularily enjoyed being at BIW because we had to travel through Brunswick. He leaves a tremendous legacy and I truly hope you and your family can find solace in that fact.
Best personal regards,
Ken Davidson

I am so very truly sorry to learn about David's passing. Though I haven't seen him in many years, I have numerous found memories of him and his family through my longtime friendship with his daughter, Amy Hess. Despite his countless achievements and tireless philanthropic efforts, David always had a kind word for me whenever we met, as well as an open door. I am really very honored to have known him, more than I can express, and I know that his passing will leave a terrible void in the hearts of his family, friends and all whose lives, like mine, that he touched.
