This extremely late memory for Mr. Roth is my way of saying "Thank you," for his understanding and compassion when I was quite young and without resources to pursue a career in social work. Dear Phyllis, Amy, Eric and Susan,

We are very sad to hear of your loss, and please know that our thoughts are with you. Dave made many meaningful and lasting contributions throughout his life. He will continue to enrich your lives as you cherish memories of his kindness and wisdom.

I can see Dave laughing at me as I write a message of condolence on a computer to be delivered on a web site. Bernie and I are saddened at his death as we were by his illness. We're grateful for the years of friendship, advice and untiring loyalty and, Phyllis, for the duration of our own lives we hope to follow his example of concern and involvement. We love you and understand the pain that you are enduring.
