Not sure what to say?

I am sorry to hear of his passing. I knew Mr. Smoyer while I was at Swarthmore College in the 80's, and he was the Athletic Director.

I rejoice in the common memories of Dartmouth and watching David in the goal.

He was one of a kind

Mary and the entire Smoyer family, I met David in 1998 when I became Headmaster of Hillside school. For the next 17 years David was a friend, supporter, and mentor. No member of our board of trustees was more involved or more valuable to our growth and success than David. Both of us had worked in the athletic department at one time and we shared that and other commonalities. But what I appreciated most of David was his incredible sense of humor and deep devotion to those in need. When my own...

Please accept my, condolences in the loss of such an unforgettable man, David. I´ve known David almost all of my life. When I was a child, I didn´t quite get him. David would always come to the beach with all the kids. David being the avid swimmer, and I a not so good swimmer, was afraid to swim to the dock at Pine Point. David, determined and I horrified, encouraged me to swim all the way to the dock . It was so hard for me and I was upset but at the end of the day I was proud to say...

So sorry to hear of Dave's passing. He had a great sense of humor and I always enjoyed talking with him either by phone or in person. I'm very glad I got to see him and Mary in Portland several times while they were visiting their daughter Laura and her family. He will be missed. Cousin Charles Smoyer

My condolences to the Smoyer Family. Dave was my soccer coach at Roxbury Latin for 3 years. I made the team his first year at RL when I was in the third class (sophomore to the rest of the world). He was a great coach (although the teams were below .500); but more importantly a mentor both on the field & in the RL halls. He continued to have advice for me whenever I ran into him (often at some game & the most recently at Mass Historical Society for a talk on the 100th...

Dear Mary and the entire Smoyer family, Ellen and I were so very sorry to hear of the loss of Dave. He was a great friend to us and to me, especially. I knew Dave for about 50 years - dating back to my years as a student at Roxbury Latin when he first arrived at the school. Dave was a great role model - smart, athletic, competitive and idealistic, he cared about us and pushed us to be our best. He was about the most direct person I have ever known - you always knew where you...
