DAVID WIETIES Obituary

DAVID LOUIS WIETIES, II passed away peacefully Thursday, June 10 after a prolonged illness. He was 69 years old. David was born in Springfield, Illinois and moved with his mother and father to Memphis when he was in 4th grade. He graduated from White Station High School in 1959 and received his BBA in Real Estate and Finance from the University of Memphis soon thereafter. He was a former District Manager for Greyhound Bus Lines and retired from his own successful real estate appraisal business in 2001. He is predeceased by his mother, Margaret Harrison Wieties and his father, David Louis Wieties. He leaves his wife of 48 years, Ann Condon Wieties; his son, David L. Wieties, III; daughter-in-law Cyndi Nicolas Wieties; and granddaughters Lauren and Ashley Wieties all of Memphis; and his daughter, Hali Wieties Barbeau, son-in-law, Jason Barbeau and grandsons, Griffin and Owen Barbeau, all of Alexandria, VA. David was a “gentle giant” who loved his family and friends. He was devoted to his wife, Ann, whom he met in high school. The two eloped when they were 20 years old and had a rich and joyful life together. He adored his 4 grandchildren and spent many happy hours with all of them. He was an avid outdoorsman, whose many and varied interests also included coin and stamp collecting, genealogy, travel (especially to cooler climates!), a fine meal and a good laugh. He was a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. His most recent passion involved serving as weekly volunteer with the Silver Foxes in the wood working shop at the Madonna Learning Center, a school for children with learning disabilities. He was a devout communicant of St. Louis Catholic Church and served as a Eucharist Minister there. Visitation will be at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel on Sunday, June 13 from 5-7 p.m. The funeral will be held at St. Louis Catholic Church on Monday, June 14 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Harwood Center, which serves children from birth to age three who have developmental disabilities (www.hardwoodcenter.org), or to the Silver Foxes at Madonna Learning Center, 7007 Poplar Ave., Germantown, Tn. 38138.
