William J. Burke & Sons / Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes Obituary

Middle Grove, NY – David A. Winkle, age 57, passed away peacefully, with his loving family by his side, on Monday, June 25, 2018.

Dave was born to Shirley (Vodapivc) Winkle and Robert L. Winkle in Schenectady, NY on November 6, 1960. After graduating from Guilderland High School in 1978, he attended Wentworth Institute in Boston, graduating with a degree in Construction Technology. He was the President and owner of Winkle Construction Co., Inc. for 37 years.

Dave was an avid hunter, and outdoorsman. He loved adventure sports, working on vintage cars, coaching baseball, leading cub scouts, skiing, surfing, and most of all, spending time with his kids. Dave prided himself on living off of the land, boiling his own maple syrup, and raising his own livestock. Being outside was his favorite place to be. His passion for life was infectious, and his amazing smile was unforgettable.

Dave leaves behind his wife of 28 years, Susan (Brennan) Winkle and his sons Shane and Jared all of Middle Grove, NY. In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by his parents, Robert and Shirley Winkle; his brother, Steve Winkle (Debbie) of Malta; Aunt, Sister Agnes Leo Winkle of Latham; Uncle, George Vodapivc (Beth) of Kennesaw, GA; father-in-law, John Brennan (Rose) of Saratoga Springs; brother- in- law, John Brennan (Yvonne) of Saratoga Springs; sister-in-law Ellen Brennan-Pierce (Jeff) of Fort Collins, CO; four nieces, two nephews, one great nephew and great niece. He also leaves behind so many good friends (thought of as family), including, but in no way limited to, Craig Uline, Sam Uline, Dave and Amy Strauss, Greg and Suzzette Fromkin, the Quartararo family, the Devizzio family and the Fodera family.

The family wishes to extend their sincere and utmost thanks to Dr. Edward Liebers and the amazing nursing staff. They would also like to thank the medical staff at both Albany Medical Center and Saratoga Hospital. Their kindness and unwavering support saw us through this most difficult time.

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 6:00 pm on Friday, June 29, 2018, with a memorial service beginning at 6:00 pm, at the William J. Burke & Sons Funeral Home, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY (518-584-5373)

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dave’s memory to The Ballston Spa Central School District, Attn: Deb Carminati, 200 Ballston Ave, Ballston Spa, NY 12020 for a baseball scholarship to be set up in Dave’s name, or the Angisosarcoma Awareness Foundation, 151 N Nob Hill Road, Suite 182, Plantation Fl, 33324 ( www.Cureasc.org).

Susan I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. Know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Susan our most sincere condolences in this time of sorrow. May it give you comfort to know we are praying for you and your family. God bless you all and may David Rest In Peace.Sincerely,Carolyn and Chuck Saxton

I would like to extend my sincere sympathy on the loss of your husband, David and his entire family. It was with great sadness that I heard of his passing. I am a friend of George and Beth. I know how much they loved David. I think George learned alot about his nephew these past few months- a bond they both shared. No one can explain why a man so young is taken away from his family only God knows . However, it seemed in his too short life it was fulfilling in many ways. Rest in peace David....

Sue, you know how much the four of us loved him. He was a constant source of fun for us, wearer of homemade t-shirts, lover of baked goods, pumpkin launch helper, dinner companion, fierce fighter, and friend. We will miss him.
