Deacon James E. Richardson, 77, of Dewitt, VA., departed his earthly home to be forever with his lord and savior on Friday October 14, 2022, at the Hunter Mcguire Veterans Hospital.


Deacon Richardson was a 1965 graduate of the Southside High School and, served in the United States Navy and was a Vietnam Veteran. He later worked at Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company and Reynolds Metal Company where he retired.


Deacon Richardson was baptized at an early age at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. After marriage, joined Center Star Baptist Church. There he served as a deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, member of Men of Praise, Brotherhood Ministry, and attended bible study regularly. He was a member of the Dinwiddie Food Bank where he also served on the Executive Board. Belonged to the St. Stephen Masonic Lodge.


Preceded in death by Father, James Howard Richardson, mother, Helen P. Richardson; sisters -Audrey Shands and Mazie Richardson; brothers - Ernest and Walter Richardson.


Family: Devoted wife, Marian W. Richardson; son James A. Richardson, Sr (Latonya Peterson); grandson, James A. Richardson, Jr.; granddaughter, Saniya Richardson; great grandson, Jeremiah Williams. Sisters: Grace Lee of Petersburg; Joyce Weaver and Theresa Johnson of Dewitt; Gladys Dawson, Columbia, SC; Annette Batts (Theodore) Dinwiddie; brother, Jasper Richadson (Janice) of Prince George. Sister-in-law, Gladys Rasor, Jacksonville, NC; brother-in-law, Waverly Weaver (Adlena) Dewitt; A host of nieces, nephews, and cousins and the Center Star Church Family.    He loved his family and doing for others.


A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday October 21, 2022, at the Center Star Baptist Church in Dewitt, VA, with the Rev. Dr. Larry Cooper, officiating.  Burial will follow immediately after in the church cemetery.  A public viewing will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2022 from 12-7:00 pm at the Petersburg Chapel of the Joseph M. Johnson and Son Funeral Home.
