Deborah Medlin Obituary

Deborah Hilton Medlin "Debbie" CHARLOTTE - Early Tuesday morning, February 16, 2016, Debbie Hilton Medlin left this world far too soon at only 51 years of age. She passed away after suffering complications from Stage Four Melanoma. She was not alone at this time and her family is comforted by the fact that she is with family in heaven. Debbie was born in Charlotte at, then, Charlotte Memorial Hospital on July 2nd 1964. As the only child of Jerry and Glenda Hilton she was loved unconditionally for all of her 51 years. She spent the majority of her life in Charlotte with a brief stint in Florida. She spent those years as a teen at Terry Parker High School in Jacksonville making fond memories with friends and family. She spent her adult life back home in Charlotte raising her two children Matthew Hilton age 30 and Britney Whitley age 25. Each were raised under her unwavering affection and strong moral compass. Being a lover of all things animal, with an exceptional compassion for horses, she raised Matthew and Britney in Union County; surrounded, at times, by eight horses, as many dogs as would show up, goats, cats, and even sheep at one time. She immersed herself in raising her children: enrolling them in 4-H and teaching them to ride horses. The 4-H community was very tight knit and she became like a mother to so many other kids in the organization. These children and their families have remained close friends with Debbie and the children and make up a great number of her closest friends. After her children were grown Debbie embarked on a journey to shape other young minds. She became an assistant teacher at New Salem Elementary with all of the outstanding teachers whom she loved and remained friends with to the end. She loved every second of her time teaching there. She later had the great courage to embark on another journey by returning to school to work towards her degree in Medical Office Administration. In 2013, at the age of 48, she achieved her goal of becoming a college graduate. While in college she found a job with Audi of Charlotte on Hwy. 74. She grew to really love her time there and formed close friendships with so many of her co-workers who she spoke of affectionately and often. Debbie was diagnosed with Stage Four Metastatic Melanoma at CMC Main three weeks ago. During her brief time there she received the best care and would be remiss to not sing their praises. There were so many who meant a lot to the family and especially to Debbie during her illness. Debbie was preceded in death by her loving grandparents Glenn and Thelma Kirkpatrick and Toni M. Hilton. She had many stories and fond memories to share about each of them. Arrangements have been made at Lee Park Baptist Church in Monroe, 2505 Morgan Mill Rd., Monroe, NC 28110, for Saturday, February 20th. Debbie had a strong faith in God and was so happy to have found a church that encouraged her to grow in her faith. Visitation will be from 12:30-2:00pm and the service will begin directly after. She will be laid to rest following the service at Sharon Memorial Park. Condolences and flowers can be sent to McEwen Funeral Services on Monroe Rd. at Sharon Memorial. Debbie meant the world to so many people and that was proven more than anyone can imagine during the final weeks. She touched everyone's life that she came into contact with and made everyone around her feel loved. Her family will miss her more than she could have ever imagined.

I'm blessed to have met Debbie and become her friend. Getting to know her was so easy. She always put others in front of herself and that was just the outside surface. She always helped others out with projects or what ever they needed. She had an eagerness to do everything at a hundred percent. She had such a softness about her that made it easy to love her. But she also had a strength about her. She used it to protect others from seeing her struggle with anything. She always put a smile on and always cared deeply for everyone. She told me about her love for animals and how much she loves horses. I can picture her in heaven riding with the wind in her face smiling. Debbie was always a protector of others and she would want us all to be at peace. I miss her presents everyday. She taught me things just by her example. I will miss her greatly! She is an ambassador for Christ in the way she lived and the memories she left with us. I'm so proud of her for living her life with unconditional love. It makes me want to show love for others more. I pray for comfort and peace for Brittany Matthew and Debbie's Mom & Dad.

Debbie was a light that always shined, and now when I see the stars at night I see a new one. I cherish our time together as moms raising children in Union County 4-H. Prayers are being sent up for the family.

My son Ethan A had her and Mrs Williams in kindergarten at New Salem. They were the best combo that anyone could ever ask for when starting school. Ms Medlin always was loving on each and every student. Ethan's Nana and Paw Paw raise minature donkies and when he told her about them... Well she had to pay a visit. Ethan thought it was so weird to see his teacher outside of the school. But she just jumped on the golf cart and hung out with us for an afternoon. I know that we are not alone when saying that she was a very special person and she will be greatly missed. Ethan is still praying for her family!

Ms. Medlin will forever be in our hearts. She was an assistant to Mrs. Starla Williams at New Salem when my daughter was in kindergarten...Zaynah is now in 8th grade. She has loved her ever since she had her for a teacher. Debbie would text me once a year to ask me to bring Zaynah by her house on Justin Braswell when it was Halloween for candy...and she would tell me Zaynah was her only trick or treat person that came by. I am so sorry to know that she is no longer able here with her family. We didn't hear of her being in he hospital until it was to late for us to contact her. I just want her family to know that she was a wonderful person and that my daughter has always loved her and talked about her and has always said that when she thinks back to elementary school the first thing she thinks about is Ms. Medlin and that she loves her so much. There was just something about her that can never be replaced or forgotten. Zaynahs heart is so heavy with sorrow right now and she is having a hard time. May God Bless her family and help them through this difficult time. WE LOVE YOU MS. MEDLIN....
