Dennis was a good friend during my teenage years and even though our paths went in different directions he will always be a good friend. I know he´s in God´s hands.

I grew up with Fr. Cooney in Bay Ridge Brooklyn, NY. I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing for he was truly a good and religious man. He brought joy and comfort to us all even as a teenager. He was also very literal. Once, when we were in the eighth grade at St. Ephrem’s grammar school the class was assigned chores to clean up the room at the end of the school year and Dennis was given the chore of getting an ink stain off the wooden floor. He scrubbed and scrubbed but was unable to get it off. When he told the nun, Sr. Helen, of his predicament she told him to “use a little elbow grease”. Well, being the literal person he was, Dennis went to the coat closet and tried to find some. When he told the Sister he couldn’t find any “elbow grease” the class burst into fits of laughter. It’s pleasant memories like that that I will always remember. May he Rest In Peace for he is truly with God.
