Michael Cooney Obituary
Michael W. Cooney, 63, of East Bridgewater, Massachusetts died unexpectedly at home on December 27, 2025.
Born in North Tarrytown, New York to William and Joanne Cooney he resided in Whitman, Massachusetts, until 1999 when he moved to East Bridgewater with his adored family.
A Whitman-Hanson Regional High School and Sylvania Technical School graduate, Michael spent thirty-seven years at Xfinity, growing often within the company.
His love of baseball was evident through his many years of coaching and he shared his athletic passion with his three sons, as well as East Bridgewater youth. Michael was a true outdoorsman with many memories in his yard as well as spending time in New York with relatives and friends at their camp.
A dedicated and loyal family man, Michael leaves behind his beloved wife of 37 years, Julie (Willett) Cooney, his cherished sons, Timothy Cooney and his wife Maria of Tilton, New Hampshire, Zacary Cooney of East Bridgewater and Sam Cooney and his wife, Madeline of Weymouth. Michael most recently became a joyful grandfather to his grandson Easton.
He is also survived by his mother Joanne Cooney of Carver (previously deceased father William Cooney), his sisters, Carol Tassinari of Hanson, Dawn Campbell of Carver, Kathleen McGuinness and her husband Thomas of Middleborough and his brother, James Cooney and his wife Gade of Carver. In addition to his siblings, Michael fully enjoyed spending time with all of his in-laws. His love for family was evident, and he will be missed by all of his nieces and nephews, and their children. Michael adored and felt blessed to have life-long friends throughout his journey.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Blanchard’s Funeral Chapel, Route 58 @ the Rotary, Plymouth Street, Whitman. Visitation will be held from 11am–2pm. A short prayer service will immediately follow. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ronald MacDonald House Charities in memory of Michael Cooney.
