Dear Dana and family,
Please accept our deepest sympathy at this time of sorrow. You have been in our thoughts ever since we heard of the passing of our dear Dennis.
I grieve with you for I admired him greatly. I remember him when he first came to my Portuguese class at FSI eager to learn the Portuguese language. Indeed, he learned the language well and never stopped using the language and working with the Brazilians. I was proud to have had him as my student.
He was a wonderful person and with his calm and soft voice made people feel comfortable around him.
He will be missed, not only by us, but by the Brazilian community as well.
You have our sympathy and love.

Dear Dana and family--
It has been a very long time since I saw either you or Dennis, probably before any of your children were married, however, you and your family will never know how much I respected Dennis as I ( and he) were growing up in Canova. My father ran the "other" grocery store in town and my sister Marlene was a classmate with Dennis. I was a "little fat boy" who loved sports but never was any good at them. That having been said, wheter it was in school, football, basketball or track, or summer Legion baseball, Dennis always encouraged, not just me, but all kids, to do their best and he never ridiculed or shamed us for our meager efforts. I followed his High School and college sports careers and never missed a chance to talk about him with Gladys or Ray. Gail was a year ahead of me and Carol was a coule of years behind me, but the whole family was a credit to life itself. Even in hard times, it was rare when any of them had a harsh word about anything. As you probably know, our family lived in Madison before moving to Canova. My father managed the K & K store there, and I believe your father owned the hardware store. I have never regretted our move to Canova, and one of the reasons was that I was able to be befriended by people like Dennis.

Dennis served his country with distintion and love. He has gone home now leaving his foot steps in many many country's. God has no further tasks as he has finished Gods will on earth. Until we meet again. A Life long friend from South Dakota.
