Diane Rose Brewer

1937-2025

Salt Lake City, UT-Diane Rose Brewer, 87, passed away in Salt Lake City-just as she might have scripted it-surrounded by her adoring family, expressing their love, and retelling favorite memories.

Diane loved a gathering. She was insatiably interested in who you are and what you are doing. Her delight in others sparked dear friendships in her neighborhood and across the country. Her doting interest in her grandchildren blessed them with confidence and illuminated paths of possibilities. Witnessing her children and grandchildren's interests and successes was among the greatest joys in Diane's life.

Diane was grateful for and proud of her farm girl roots. Born into an unpainted wood home with no bathroom, no running water, and a coal stove for heat, she grew up on her family's dairy farm in Tremonton, Utah. She revered her loving parents, Smith and Jean, for their hard work, faith, and frugality and was grateful for the opportunities they afforded her with education and music. She graduated from Bear River High School. She attended BYU and graduated from Utah State University where she established life-long friendships through her propensity to join-well-everything, and her affiliation with Kappa Delta. After graduating from USU, Diane, Miss Rose, delighted in teaching 5th grade students at Rose Park Elementary.

Diane loved Stan dearly and was devoted to him throughout their life together. They met in Ogden, and were married in the LDS Logan Temple in 1960. They raised their family in the Millcreek and Holladay neighborhoods of Salt Lake City, and served an LDS mission in Bar Harbor, Maine. They also made dear friends in Oakley, Utah where they had a home in the 1970s. Mom loved the mountains and dad loved the desert. They delighted their family with dozens of camping and boating trips over the years. They enjoyed traveling to other countries and cultures and meeting new people. Diane's care for Stan as they confronted the cancer that ultimately took him was one of many admirable acts of service through her life.

She was a life-long student of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Diane's foundational belief in God, repentance and forgiveness edified her and transformed her during the most difficult times of her life.

Diane loved music and enjoyed playing the piano and organ in the LDS wards where she lived. She played the piano daily in her home for most of her adult life. She was eternally grateful for her mother's investment in piano lessons when she was seven years old and for other musical mentors in high school and college. Diane also loved gardening and sewing. She made prom dresses and clothes that her children and grandchildren cherish.

Diane served on the Governing Board of Lambda Delta Sigma for many years and visited chapters at campuses around the country. The sisters with whom she served were among her dearest friends and she continued to travel with them socially for many years.

Diane is survived by her children Dee (Portia), Doug (Heidi), John-david (Jennifer), Jennifer Israelsen (Rich), twelve grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and two brothers Steven Rose, and Theron Rose. She is preceded in death by her husband Stan, brother Norman Rose, sisters Linda Dallon and Janet Fulmer and her parents H. Smith Rose and Jeanetta Elizabeth McFarland Rose.

Diane was supported by many loving neighbors. Tom and Jodi Wagner, Diane's next-door neighbors, generously watched over her. Mom was certain that Stan had sent Tom to be her guardian angel.

Services will be held Friday, August 29 at 2pm at Wasatch Lawn, 3401 South Highland Drive. The family looks forward to receiving friends at a viewing at the same location on Thursday, August 28 from 6pm to 8pm and Friday from 1:00-1:45pm, immediately preceding the funeral service. Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn immediately following the service.
