Not sure what to say?

Don had a good sense of humor. One Thanksgiving when we were all over at his house having a vegan celebration of the holiday, I watched one of his indoor cats scratching the windowsill. I said, "Oh look, the cat is ruining your window frame." Don said, "Not to worry, he's just renovating it a little." Miss you Don.

Don was one of those rare humans who carried out his work on behalf of animals but never had the need to sing his own praises. In the field of animal protection and rights you encounter many who are there because they need to be, Don was there because he fully believed in the rights of those we call animals. He was eternally sarcastic, funny, appropriately disrespectful and brilliant.

This world still needs him but we will have to get along without him.

I am sorry for your loss. Always remember that God is loving and kind and He cares for you. 1Peter 5:6,7

John (Hollrah) and I were just thinking about Don and wondering how he was doing when we heard the news. We are saddened to hear he has left us. Don was such an authentic individual and good soul, and he definitely left an indelible imprint on this earth. I know our lives were changed forever through our friendship with Don. He fought the power and used his eloquent voice to speak out for the voiceless. And the world is better off for it.

Forever Don

My college graduation 1993.

I met Don in April 1988 and he changed my life forever. He was my mentor, he believed in me and supported me.

I learned so much from him and was so thankful to have him as part of my life for so long.

Thank you to all you have given the world and me.

You will be missed.

I am so sorry for his partner and family for their loss.

love,
