Donnie Simpson was a great man, official, and friend. I'm so sorry that I was out of town when he passed and didn't get to pay my last respects. Whether he was calling me for leads on a landman job, talking about playing golf, or recalling our last football or basketball game, I always laughed and smiled during the call (if you ever got off the phone). Truly a kind soul who will be missed by all who knew him. RIP 'The Ref"

I didn't know you long but I enjoyed working with you. You were a great teacher and mentor. To the family, I will keep you in my prayers. Remember nothing is lost when you know where it is. I just believe Donnie is in the presence of Jesus

Having officiated basketball with Donnie Simpson, I can recall referring many enjoyable games with him. He was always happy and smiling. There was never a dull moment when he was around. Heaven has gained a great man and we have lost a treasure. I pray you will remember every funny story and every hearty laugh, even through your sorrow.

I will miss you my brother. I want the rest of your life to be in peace as you deserve. You were a fascinating guy and someone I'll think about often. I'll see you again one day!! Until then. Save me a good spot!! I love you and your family!! I'll be there for them all.

Donnie was a great man, official, and mentor to all who knew him. I was thankful to call football and baseball with Donnie. Thank you for your help. Donnie was a class act, and funny. He always had something to say that worth remembering either be a better official or to laugh while others where stressed around.

To the family: Donnie always loved what he did. As an umpire you have to put up with a lot. I know when I was coaching and he worked many of my games,regardless of the outcome or if I thought he missed a call. After the game it was over and we always remained friends.
