SHREVEPORT LA- Donald "Donnie" Raymond Simpson went home to be with the Lord after 62 years of living a happy and love filled life.

Donnie was born September 21, 1951 and passed away on July 10, 2014. He was preceded in death by son, Jaime, father, Raymond, mother, Pearline, sister, Louise, brother, Dale. He leaves behind wife of 40 Years, Jane; son, Jordan; daughter, Sydney Posey (Jonathan); granddaughter, Rae; sister, Joyce Taylor (Dean); sister, Linda Johnson (Marshall).

Donnie was a well-respected high school athletics referee for more than 30 years and was an instrumental part of athletic organizations throughout the state. He loved being a part of various sports in the area.

He spent the last few years of his life as a land man in the oil and gas industry traveling to various parts of the south. Most recently, spending weeks in Odessa, TX where he worked researching and leasing land for large oil and gas companies.

Donnie's favorite job in life was being "Pops" to Rae. She brought more joy to him than any other activity in his life. He lived to be a part of her life, dedicating the majority of his time away from sports and oil work with "His Girl". Pops was a shining example of love to Rae and his presence in her life was more than just a grandfather.

Honorary Pallbearers are Shreveport-Bossier Football High School Officials Trey Giglio, Rodney Palmer, Josh Richie, Darrell Storey, and Kyle Scripture.

Donnie Simpson was a great man, official, and friend. I'm so sorry that I was out of town when he passed and didn't get to pay my last respects. Whether he was calling me for leads on a landman job, talking about playing golf, or recalling our last football or basketball game, I always laughed and smiled during the call (if you ever got off the phone). Truly a kind soul who will be missed by all who knew him. RIP 'The Ref"

Donnie was a great man, official, and mentor to all who knew him. I was thankful to call football and baseball with Donnie. Thank you for your help. Donnie was a class act, and funny. He always had something to say that worth remembering either be a better official or to laugh while others where stressed around.

To the family: Donnie always loved what he did. As an umpire you have to put up with a lot. I know when I was coaching and he worked many of my games, regardless of the outcome or if I thought he missed a call. After the game it was over and we always remained friends.
Donnie dropped by Bossier High a couple of weeks ago when school was out to visit. I was tying up some lose ends with our financial statement. Donnie pullednout his check book and wrote a check for $100 andmtold me to give it to my athletic program. This was them kind of man he was. When I became principal he was one of the first to congratulate me. A truly good man. I will miss ribbing him. Your Bearkat Family will miss you.

To Donnie's family...so very sorry to hear of his passing. I went to high school with Donnie and he was a delight. Always a smile for everyone, never heard a bad word come from him. To be short in stature he was a very good athlete and loved all sports. Donnie could also sing which was a surprise to many. Many good memories of Donnie come to mind and am so sad for all of you in your loss. May you feel God's presence as you grieve and may He comfort you at your saddest moments. With loving thoughts and prayers,
