Dora Miller Obituary

On October 2nd, 2014, exactly 16 years after the love of her life, Richard E. Miller, took his final breath, Dora J. Miller also took hers and began her journey to reunite with her husband of 47 years.

Dora was born March 24th, 1925 to Umberto and Elvira (Sparagana) Spurio.

Dora and her husband owned and operated Miller's Grocery Store until 1969. After closing the grocery, Dora became a Nurses Aid at Wyomissing Lodge and later at the former Community Gerenal Hospital. After her retirement from the hospital, Dora began working at Wendy's on Perkiomen Avenue in Mt. Penn.

Already missing her, but thankful that her suffereing is over are her two children, Dawn Miller-Wert and Kerry E. Miller; her grandchildren: Jordan T. Miller, Ryan D. Miller; Angela R. Miller and Keri E. Wert; her future grandson-in-law, Hector Marinez, and the other love of her life, her great-grandson, Elias A. Marinez. Also surviving Dora are her cousins, Joanna Cirulli and James Sparagana Jr. and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and her parents, Dora was preceded in death by her grandson, Kerry E. Miller Jr., her brothers, Ignatius and Albert Spurio, and her sister, Rose (Spurio) Miuccio.

Respecting Dora's wishes and fearing her threat to come back and haunt us if we do not, all services will be private at the convenience of her immediate family.

Dora was loved by many.

Please feel free to share your sentiments in the online guest book, and know that her family is simply doing what mom asked us to do.

Dawn and Kerry,
Just heard of your mother's passing. She was always Mrs. Miller to me and you cannot remember her without thinking of her husband, Richard. I enjoyed remembering her at St. Peter's School, Parish picnics and the grocery store. It was Mr. & Mrs. who first taught me to open the door at the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve and sweep out the old year to let the new one in. I have done it every year since. Take comfort in knowing she loved her family, was a faithful servant and they are together at last in God's heavenly kingdom.
Kindest regards.

Dawn, Kerry and families, condolences on the passing of Dora. Too many memories of our families taking trips and spending time together to catalog, but some of the best memories of my childhood. I believe that we are reunited with the ones we have loved and lost in another world, and the reunion of Dora and Richard was a grand event I am sure. All of our best wish's and paryers.

When I worked with this wonderful woman years ago at CGH, little did I know I would eventually meet and become friends with her children. Sarge and I send our thoughts and prayers to you for your loss. I can still see your Mom in her crisp yellow scrub top and pure white uniform slacks walking the hall sharing her smile with her patients. She will rest in peace.

Dawn, Kerry and family,
I am so fortunate to have all the great memories with Aunt Dora and Uncle Rich. The funny hats she made me wear to church at St. Peters when I stayed at your house, the fun times we had on the family vacations to Six Penny, Hopewell, North Pole and everywhere else they took me with as their other daughter. The best with your mom was the night I spent with her when Keri Beth went into labor. Aunt Dora, you were the best, I loved her dearly and she will always be in my heart. Now she is back with the love of her life and in God's arms.
I do know what you are going through as you know I went through the same. I am here if you need anything. i love you all.

Kerry and family so sorry to hear of your mothers passing. Rarely does an obituary put a smile on my face but your mothers certainly did and I'm sure she loved it.

my heartfelt and deepest sympathy to Dawn, Kerry and family. My dad,Ralph & Dora were first cousins through her mother and his father being brother and sister. Never will i forget the love that was shared between Rich and Dora. It was clear Rich worshipped the ground Dora walked on. Dora was a great nursing assistant, as she, my Aunt Ginny and I worked together at CGH, but on different floors. The Miller house was always open, I will always remember the store at 6th & Spruce. Dora and my mother Ida were extremely close, as she was my mothers' confidant, in troubled times. I recall her famous red velvet cake, and how she looked after so many of the kids on our block and was a very loving, caring daughter and sister to her mom, Mrs.Spurio and sister,Rose. Dora, your place in heaven was long ago reserved, rest in peace, dear.

Dora was a VERY great friend to our Mom, Bernice, when she lived across the street on Fairview. Dora and Richard were great people to know and were always there to help. May they be happy now that they are back together. It is hard for those of us still here in our everyday lives without them. Sorry for your loss.

Dear Dawn and Kerri,

We are so sorry for your loss. I know from a personal experience during my short stay in Reading in the mid 60's what a wonderful, hard working, loving mother and caring person your mother was, and also a great cook. I shared some wonderful times with you and your family which I will never forget. Dora is in our prayers but we all know she is watching over all of us. As she might say, "ain't so".

I would just like to express my deepest sympathy to Dawn and Kerry and their families. I grew up with Kerry and was always at his house. I can truly say that Kerry's Mother Dora was about the most wonderful person I ever met! She always looked out for me in every way and treated me like a son! I will never forget everything that she and Kerry's Dad Rich did for me growing up!

Dawn and Kerry -- Your mother meant a lot to me during my "growing up" years on South Sixth Street. She nurtured me at times as a second "mother." I will be forever thankful to your entire family for our times together! Blessings to you -- Ellis Kirk

Dawn (and family) so sorry to hear about the loss of your Mom. When I read the Obituary I realized how much you are like your Mom….saying that she would come back to haunt you if you had services for her. That made me smile. Please know that my thoughts are with you. Having lost my Mom I know how you must be feeling. Be strong - she is looking down on you and your family and will be watching over you. Love you honey, Linda Cusimano

To the family of Dora Miller, Dora was a wonderful person with a big heart. She was a hard working woman and didn't expect anything in return . She lived by the Golden Rule. May she rest peacefully with her hubby Richard .God's peace be with you.

In 1971 Dora was my preceptor at Wyomissing Nursing and rehab , was Wyomissing lodge at that time. She was a great person and took her job seriously. I learned a lot from her. At that time you had to work as a CNA until you got your license. I got my license as an LPN and worked with her for about 9 months. It was a pleasure. I am so sorry for your loss. Losing a parent is very difficult. Know she is feeling no pain and is in a better place
