Doris J. Howerton, 75, of Myrtle Beach, SC, passed away on Saturday, August 7, 2021. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 20, in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. She will be laid to rest in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made in her honor to a charity of your choice. Doris was born October 18, 1945, to Calvin and Versa (Dick) Jesberg in Lee County, IA. On January 29, 1966, she married Veldon L. Howerton in Davenport, IA. He passed away October 26, 2014. For many years she worked in medical records at Bettendorf Medical Center.
Doris was a kind, loving woman who loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed camping with her family.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Steven Howerton, Davenport, IA; daughter, Patricia Whitmer, Muscatine, IA; nephews, Stanton, David, and Robert Mertens; six grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Veldon L. Howerton; her parents; grandson, Ryan Steven Howerton; and sister, Barbara Mertens.

So sorry for your loss. Doris and Veldon were my mother's neighbors. My younger sister, Lisa, and I grew up next door. Doris and Veldon were always so nice to us. RIP Doris.
