Doris Leonard Obituary

Doris Leonard
Doris Gage "Doe" Nichols Leonard was born to Leila Ella (Black) Nichols and Norman Joseph Nichols on March 27, 1925, in Somerville, Mass. She went home to heaven March 5, 2021, three weeks before her 96th birthday. She's reunited with her husband, Charles Jay "Chuck" Leonard, who preceded her in death 18 weeks earlier on Oct. 29, 2020. And she's with her son, John Jay "Jack" Leonard who died Oct. 8, 2015. Also preceding her in death are her parents; and her only sibling, her older brother, Norman Black Nichols, who died in World War II and is buried at sea. Doe then decided to join the Navy after Norm's death, and she served our country for a year until the war ended; her title being Aerographer's Mate 3rd Class. Doe grew up mostly in New York, where she attended schools. She met Chuck at Michigan State University. They were married Sept. 10, 1949, in Delmar, N.Y., the beginning of 71 years of marriage. They moved to Pueblo in 1957. Doe lived a full life. She was a strong and spirited woman with a wonderful laugh and a positive outlook. To know her was to love her. She was a bookkeeper for many years, retiring from her last client when she was 88 years old, and a few years prior to that was when she gave up bowling! She was avid about most sports especially college football and the Broncos. Doe and Chuck enjoyed traveling, and they experienced many sites and activities during their trips in the USA and abroad. Their special place was their Silver Lakes cabin near Monte Vista, where beloved family and friends gathered in the summers since the 1960s. Doe and Chuck were enriched by their many close friends, many of whom are gone. Their church family was very special to them and they enjoyed their Saturday night dinner gang. They leave behind many special people to include Dr. Maureen Kelly and those at Genesis Health Care Center in Pueblo, who cared for them in their final years together. So many people in all walks of life have impacted their, and our hearts. Thank you and God bless each of you. Doe is survived by her daughter, Norma (Randy) Lesher. She was blessed with two grandchildren, grandson, Jason (Neve) and great-grandchildren, Rowan, Hazel and Kelton; her granddaughter, Mandi "Mandi May" (Mike) and grand dogs, Teeko and Lucy; as well as many nieces and nephews; and her two brothers-in-law's, Lee (Helen) and Jim (Eileen). Rest in peace precious lady, you will be missed. Due to active COVID vaccinations, at this time a memorial service for Doe, Chuck, and Jack will be announced at a later date

Time ones not change the memories. All the times we had with you over the years and especially the many times we traveled from Texas to Pueblo, to enjoy so many memories will be in our hearts forever. We keep in close touch with Norma and love her dearly. You raised a lovely daughter. Rest in peace until we all meet again. What a wonderful celebration that will be. Our love be with you.
