Dorothy Ann Calwell Phillips, age 78, resident of the Longtown Community in Fayette County and wife of Lemuel Phillips, departed this life Monday, April 8, 2025 at St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett, Tennessee.
Dorothy was born October 5, 1946 in Memphis, Tennessee, the daughter of the late James and Velma Lacroix Calwell. She went to nursing school to become a Licensed Practical Nurse and was employed at St. Joseph Hospital. Following her employment at the hospital, she worked at First Tennessee Bank as a loan officer and then at Union Planters Bank in the automotive loan department for several years. She also worked at Nova Factor and became a licensed pharmacist and worked as a pharmacy technician before her retirement.
Dorothy was married September 20, 1985 to Lemuel Phillips. She was a member of Mercy’s Bridge Church near Somerville and will be remembered for being a family-oriented caring person who loved her pets and all animals, the outdoors, riding horses, bass fishing and being with her family and friends.
Mrs. Phillips is survived by her husband of 41 years, Lemuel Phillips; five children, Ronald Milton Lipford, Rebecca Velma Lipford, Cynthia Ann Lipford, Wayne Phillips and Brian Phillips; two grandchildren, Madison Leann Phillips and Dakota Phillips; and her great-granddaughter, Blair Nicole.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Phillips were held at 10 A.M. Friday, April 11, 2025 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Pastor Mark Moser of Unity Pentecostal Church in Arlington, Tennessee, officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64.
The family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude’s Memorial Giving, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
