Hawthorne Funeral Home - Mount Vernon Obituary

Dorothy “Dot” Chapman (Jacques), 78 years old, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2019 at Skagit Valley Hospital after surgery complications.
Dorothy was born the fifth child of eight to Leo and June Jacques in Brownville, Maine. She always reminisced about her childhood in Maine and how much fun she had with her family camping, sledding, raising animals and going fishing with her father. She met and married naval serviceman Ronald Chapman and had three children. Being married to a submarine serviceman, who was out to sea for long periods of time, and raising three children was challenging. Dorothy always took things in stride even when the Navy would relocate the family every few years. She had “The patience of Job”. After 25 years of moving around the United States, she finally was able to call Mount Vernon her home and developed many friendships. During her career she worked at Montgomery Wards, Draper Valley and spent 13 years at Visiting Nurse where she assisted people with in-home care.
Dorothy enjoyed camping with her children and grandchildren at Baker Lake, taking yearly family trips pheasant hunting in Eastern Washington, teaching her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren crafts, loved playing cards (Poker & Tripoley) and raising her pugs.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and one brother. She is survived by her three grateful children, daughter in-law, two son in-laws, two grandchildren, four great grandchildren, five sisters, one brother, and many nieces, and nephews.
A “Celebration of Life” will be planned at a later date.
The family suggests sending memorial contributions to the Humane Society of Skagit Valley https://mjhssv1.blogspot.com/p/join.html

Not sure what to say?

We didn't get to visit with each other as much as I would of liked, but I really enjoyed our phone conversation and you always had a new joke to share. I know you are up in heaven with Ron, and Mom and Dad rest in peace Dot you will be missed very much.

I am sorry I didn't have more time to spend with her and get to know her better. She will be missed.

Gently wrap yourself in the warm memories of your mother. Let the love that held you close continue to bring strength and comfort.

well mom you were a wonderful mother, and still are I will never forget the good times that you created for Cheryl , Kelley and I we will miss you.

The life that she lived will always be remembered, The ways she touched hearts cannot be erased, The smiles and the laughter she created will live on forever.

Losing a loved one is never easy, but our loving God promises to give the strength and courage you'll need to endure, and to cope with the pain of your loss. He also promises to hold your hand every step of the way. (Isaiah 40:29, 41:10, 13) May loving memories also sustain your family during this difficult time. Ann Smith
