Dorothy Haney Obituary

Dorothy Marie Clark Haney was received into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 8, 2013. She was born in Texas City, TX on June 10, 1921 to William and Cora Lawson Clark. She attended school in Houston and Arp, TX. Dorothy graduated from Reagan High School in Houston. She continued her education at business school before working at Humble Oil, Goodyear, and Mosher Steel. God blessed Dorothy with her dream job which was as the Secretary for the Director of Traffic and Engineering for the City of Houston. After 32 years of work in this job which she loved she retired to enjoy the rest of her life.
Dorothy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Houston for over forty years and was one of the original members of the Crown Class Sunday School. She volunteered for many years at the church's Clothes Closet helping needy families. Serving and volunteering were passions of hers. Dorothy made over 250 children's quilts for the WIC program and later made over 200 quilts for children who were patients at the Shriner's Hospital for Children in Houston.
Dorothy enjoyed a variety of other activities including gardening, traveling, reading, and helping others when she was needed.
Dorothy is survived by her adoring daughter, Cheryl Haney Roberts who always said that Dorothy was a perfect mother who never made any mistakes in raising her. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, J.B. Haney, 7 nieces: Patrice Norris, Bonnie Joy McClain, Cora Ellen Taylor, Debbie McCart, Carol Lartigue, Michelle Sanford, and Sharlene Rochen. She is also survived by 3 nephews: Jimmy Haney, Mike Haney, and Steven Rochen. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters: Audie Morton, Ruby Threlkeld, Thelma Connally, and Betty Taylor. One brother, Ray "Buddy" Clark, also predeceased her.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7pm at Waltrip Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held in the chapel at Houston's First Baptist Church, 7401 Katy Freeway, on Friday, July 12, 2013 at 10:00 am, with Reverend Larry Lilley officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Garden of Memories.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Baptist Church Food Pantry, 7401 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77024; the Salvation Army, 1500 Austin St., Houston, TX 77002, Shriner's Hospital for Children (Attn: Texas Legacy), 6977 Main Street, Houston, TX 77030, or the charity of your choice.

Cheryl, through our friendship I met Dorothy. Through spending time together Dorothy and I formed our own friendship. I treasure the times we spent together. Dorothy was a wealth of information. I enjoyed listening to her interesting stories. Your mother loved you with all her heart. She was a very special lady, and I will miss her. My prayers and love are with you.
