Not sure what to say?

I will always remember Doug's gentle spirit, smile, and soul. The neighborhood has lost one of it's strongest links. Our prayers are with the family.

I had the pleasure of working with Coach Carter in support of the African American Heritage Festival. We had wonderful conversations regarding his time as an elite athlete and Coach/Teacher at R.E Lee. He was a positive, engaging person, and very humble considering his substantial accomplishments. He was a legendary figure to the hundreds of local athletes he encouraged and coached as young people. Staunton has lost a true pillar of the community.

I am so sorry for your loss. May God surround you with his comfort, love and care

I was sorry to hear about Coach Carter. Yes I still called him that from the old days. He was always was always smiling and joking whenever I talked to him. He will be missed.

Rest in Paradise Coach Carter

I was so glad I was able to see and talk with Coach in the last few weeks. We laughed and as always he made me feel better. When I first met him he was my coach, but more importantly now I consider him a friend. Thanks for everything Coach!

So sorry to hear about "my man". During my four years at R E Lee, Doug was not only my best assistant coach but also a close friend and confidant. May he rest in peace.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

RIP Coach Carter. He actually made learning fun in History class and worked with me thru some learning curves. I loved to hear all his N.C. state football stories...especially the one about Graceland. He will be missed.
