Not sure what to say?

I am sorry to hear about Doug. I was a 1956 classmate at Columbia City High School and remember Doug as being a nice young man. My condolences to his family.

May God give you strength in this time of grief and fond memories of Douglas Allan Lanier,
CCHS Alumni Class of 1956.
The Alumni of CCHS extends sincere condolences,
thoughts and prayers to Doug's family.

He was a wonderful teacher, patient and kind. Somehow, he got a bunch of adolescents in the 70's excited about chemistry. Deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

Doug was a master teacher, a colleague of mine and a friend. People talk about "class"...what is it? how do you describe it?....well all you had to do was spend five minutes with Doug, and there were your answers!
My deepest sympathies to all of his family members.

I'm fighting back the tears as I write this. Next to my parents, there was no greater influence on my life during my high school years than Doug Lanier. He was the perfect teacher; he demanded a lot and loved you a lot more. In August of 2014, my opening remarks to the teachers of Chippewa Valley was based on Doug, using him as an example of what a great teacher does. He didn't make cars, parts, or portfolios-he made a difference!

You will be greatly missed, dear friend!

I still remember the day he told me to stop calling him Mr. Lanier. I said I wasn't sure I'd ever manage it. To this day, calling him Doug makes me feel like the rudest student he ever had. But he was more than a teacher to me; he was a friend. He wasn't only the reason I loved chemistry, but also a big reason I attended Purdue and wound up going into teaching. The influence he had on the path of my life from the time I walked into his classroom my first day at SHHS is, quite frankly,...

I loved you from the start. A gentle man who took good care of my beloved friend Betty Jean. I will always think of you when I see a beautiful garden.

I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Lanier's passing. He was my chemistry teacher in the 80's and he helped influence me to major in Chemistry in college. My condolences.
