Not sure what to say?

I first saw Doug when our Senior Class (SSP) of '50 met every Thursday evening for our bowling league. We were on alley 12 and this little kid was on alley 1 - all by himself having a fun time bowling with his little bowling ball. We were amazed that he got a strike almost every time he threw the ball. We didn't do as well :-) Doug was my youngest daughters (Class of 1976) teacher and counselor. He was a wonderful hockey coach - Our weekly outings were the Thursday and Saturday Packer...

Jan, Amy, Steve, and Danny,

The hockey world lost one of the greatest players, coaches, and commentators last month
and I lost a great friend and teammate.

Doug may have been small in stature, especially by today's standards, but he competed with the heart of a lion and was a natural born leader both on and off the ice.

I'm sure Doug would be the first to tell you that despite his many awards and accolades, his proudest achievement was his beautiful family.

Rest...

My first memory of Doug when I was a senior in high school and we had a bowling league at Woog's Bowling Alley every Thursday. We were on Lane 10 and this little kid about 5 years old with a 4# bowling ball was on lane 1 and getting a lot more "strikes" then we did. At the time we didn't know who he was but soon we found out that he was Jake Woog's son! He was there quite often when our League met. I also spent time at their house as Patty was a friend of mine. He was also my youngest...

Without Mr. Woog's guidance and pushing me to graduate High School I never would have done it I got the opportunity to thank him years after and still remembered my name. I will be forever grateful.

THIS GOES BACK A WAYS, BUT I RECALL DOUGY, DAVE METZEN, JOHN SARAFOLEAN AND I HAVING A FEW BREWS AT THE OLD

Doug...your contribution to this great game of hockey will never be forgotten. I remember competing against you when you wore those crazy gravy boat helmets at the U. and I was at Duluth. You played the game with such desire. You coached at all levels, and we clashed often when I was at North St Paul, and you were coaching your alma mater. You also continue such a great program at the U. of M., and you developed so many players with your camps and coaching over the years.
Your impact in...

Doug was a great athlete and mentor who will be missed. He was an inspiration to everyone he came in contact with. My condolences to his family.

Dougie: The great times as kids at the cabin in Nisswa.....so many great moments fishing, boating, swimming, and trouble-making. May you rest in peace.
