Edgar Mitchell Obituary
Edgar "Mitch" Maurice Mitchell, 81, of Lynchburg passed away on Monday, March 7, 2022, peacefully with his loving wife of 60 years, Gaynell Nester Michell, at his side.
Born in Roanoke, he was the only child of Paul Hampton Mitchell and Cristine Johnson Mitchell.
He retired from VDOT in 1991 as Equipment Superintendent of the Lynchburg District. After retirement he repaired clocks for several years until his health failed.
Having no children of their own Mitch and Gaynell were like second parents to many nieces, nephews and neighborhood children thru the years.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 13, 2022 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel where a celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 14, 2022 with Pastor William Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
