Edison Thomas Obituary

THOMAS, EDISON H., 99, of Fort Wayne, IN went home to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on July 16, 2011. A native of Trigg County, Kentucky, he was a retired public relations executive of the old Louisville & Nashville Railroad; a Navy veteran of World War II, Pacific theater; member of the Filson Club; The Kentucky Historical Society; The John Hunt Morgan Chapter, Sons of Confederate Veterans; Orphan Brigade Kinfolk; The Kentucky Society, Sons of American Revolution; a Kentucky Colonel; past president The Thomas-Bridges Association, the Pioneer Club, deacon and moderator, Valley Station Baptist Church. Since moving to Fort Wayne he has been an active member of Faith Baptist Church and their XYZ Club.

Ed was the loving husband to the late Thelma Garrett Thomas nee Waits, loving father to Barbara A. Read nee Garrett (Joe Read), Ronald L. Garrett (Vicky), Dwayne R. Garrett (Betty) and the late Sue Carole Manahan nee Garrett (Warren Manahan); loving grandfather to 11; great-grandfather to 16; and great-great-grandfather to one; and loving Uncle to Robert Glenn Hinson and Joyce Lewis in California; and cousin to many in the Thomas Bridges family. Good friend to many.

Funeral services will be noon on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at Hardy's Funeral Home (Valley Station), 10907 Dixie Highway, Louisville, KY, 40272. Visitation is 4-6 p.m. on Friday, July 22, 2011, and also 10 a.m. - noon on Saturday before service. Internment in Louisville Memorial Gardens West, 4400 Dixie Highway, Louisville, KY 40216.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Highview Baptist Church, 5415 Valley Station Rd, Louisville, KY 40272 or Faith Baptist Church, 6600 Trier Rd, Fort Wayne, IN 46815.

Edison was indeed a friend to many, and we enjoyed his friendship as well as being a part of his extended Thomas family. He was in every way "a Southern gentleman", a delightful person, and a man of honor. We will miss him, his letters and his kind face at our reunions.
