EDWARD ABRAHAM Obituary

ABRAHAM. Edward "Eddie" Abraham, beloved brother, uncle and friend passed away May 4th, 2012 at the age of 70. An El Paso native he attended Houston Grade School, El Paso High School, the University of Texas at Austin where he graduated with an architectural engineering degree, and attended UCLA for post-graduate studies. He is survived by his sister Geraldine "Haifa" Malooly and Gilbert, Sr., and his brother Joseph "Sib" Abraham, Jr. and wife Margaret, Nephews Christopher, Gilbert Jr. (Booty), and Gregory Malooly, William (Billy) Abraham, Lee Chagra Jr., Nieces Cheryl Malooly, Terri Finnegan, Tina McDade, Leslie Karam, and Joanna Kracher. He was preceded in death by his sister Joanne Chagra, mother Helen "Neima" Abraham and father Joseph Abraham, Sr. After his studies, Eddie began teaching school for the El Paso Independent School District, as well as Canutillo High School. During this time he began working with C.H. Leavell in the construction field. From there, for the next 40 years, he established his own real estate and construction development company. He designed and built numerous shopping centers and commercial properties throughout El Paso. He also established his reputation during this period as a custom home builder, designing and building luxurious custom homes for friends, relatives and others. Edward shared his success in many philanthropic endeavors. His first love was to his church, St. George Orthodox Church, where he was a lifelong member. When asked for a donation he elected to personally retire the entire mortgage debt. Additionally, he owned and rented a property to Iglesia de Dios Todo Poderoso. When Eddie was notified that the church was unable to pay the rent, Eddie said "How about if I just donate the property to the church?" which he did. Edward will be remembered as a kind, gentle and loving person who was a credit to humanity. His goal in life was to share his success with those less fortunate. He sponsored numerous United States Tennis Association events, and was himself an avid and skilled tennis player, striking fear into the hearts of competitors. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at St. George Orthodox Church located at 120 North Festival from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The celebration of life will begin at 6:00 p.m. at St. George Summit Hall. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Edward Abraham fund in c/o St. George Orthodox Church.

My dearest Eddie! Mr. Abraham! Eddie was my algebra teacher in junior high in both my 7th and 8th grade years..the two years that he taught school before he joined his father in his business. The girls all had the biggest crushes on him...including me, even after all these years...and the boys respected him. Such a nice, respectable, bright, vibrant and handsome young man who wanted us all to learn and prosper. Throughout the years after graduating, we kept in touch and his beautiful smile, his velvety voice, and hearty laugh were always wonderful to look forward to and experience. At Christmas, he shared his chocolate mice and warm hugs.... it was always something special from Eddie because he made sure it was. That was his nature and spirit! He was kind, considerate, and loving. He always cared for others and always had time to share of himself. He gave of himself....always! Valentine's Day 2012 will be a special day remembered....... Eddie, you gave love a meaning. You were loved in return....deeply. We miss you and offer our prayers to you and your loving family during their time of mourning. Find comfort in the arms of our Lord. I offer my music and songs, wafting like incense, in your memory with much love and respect. Te amo mucho.

I attended Houston School with Eddie and I always had so much respect and love for him then as just kids. He treated everyone with such genuine kindness and caring. You could tell he was a gentle soul even then and though our paths never crossed as adults, I always remembered him as that good and kind person others are remembering now.
My sincere condolences to all his family. Treasure his memory and know he is in better hands now.

I was so saddened to hear the news about dear Eddie, what a good man, our hearts are broken over his loss, and our hearts are also larger for having known him. I have never, in my life, heard anyone give anything but a word of praise or appreciation to him or in regard to his name.

What an exemplary beacon, the epitome of generosity, grace, kindness, integrity and humility.

Edward will continue living in our hearts and memories as a torch-bearer of good will and good works.

He has taught us goodness of heart by his example.

If he had an Arabic name, it would be Karim, the generous one, generous of both spirit and heart.

How very, very fortunate and greatly blessed we are and were to know him.

I feel "greatly" honored to have had that opportunity. May God rest his soul, as I know He will.

My deepest and most sincere condolences to each and every one of his family and all of his friends, and they are many.

What a great and varied legacy he has left.

We were blessed by knowing him.

ALLAH YIRHAMOO, MAY God Rest His Soul

God looked around his garden and found an empty space when he looked down upon this earth and saw your tired face. He put His arms around you and lifted you to rest. God's garden must be beautiful as He only takes the best.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Eddie's family. He will always live in our hearts. Richard, Kathy, and Christopher Salem.

Many may know that Eddie maintained a second residence in Austin Texas for the last couple if years of his life. Although he was a temporary resident of our neighborhood for a very short time, Eddie's life touched many people as he welcomed us into his home and his family for both Christmas and Superbowl gatherings. Eddie was kind and friendly to everyone he met and he was taken from us WAY too soon.
