Edward Covert Obituary

EDWARD T. COVERT, age 81, of Missouri City, Texas, was finally called home to heaven and reunited with the love of his life, Lynn, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's. Ed's final years were spent at Autumn Leaves Memory and Alzheimer Care Facility in Missouri City, TX. The staff and hospice workers are 'angels among the living' and couldn't do enough to ensure he was comfortable.
Born in 1932 and raised in Staten Island, he was a truck driver who worked for Joseph F. Whelan Trucking Co. until he retired. He graduated from Port Richmond H.S. in 1950. Ed served in the Korean War from 1950-1953, and was a devote Catholic, promising if he ever got out alive, he would attend Mass every Sunday - he kept true to his word ever since. He married Linda Fusco in 1956. They enjoyed traveling and spending time with family. Ed was a 4th Degree Member in the Knights of Columbus and proudly served this fraternal organization. Ed and Lynn relocated to Missouri City, TX, in 1991, where they could be close to their grandchildren. He was a gifted piano player and everyone loved his music. Ed and Lynn served thousands of volunteer hours at Holy Family Catholic Church Social Services in Missouri City, TX.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lynn; and parents, Mary and Irving Covert. Ed is survived by his daughters, Sandy Basler and her husband Peter, and Lori Pierson and her husband Don; and son, Michael Covert and his wife Lorraine. He was a beloved grandfather to Sydney, Troy, Anthony, Angela, and Valerie.
Ed was a man of honor, a man above men, a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all. We will miss you Piano Man!
Friends are invited to a visitation from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, September 3, 2014, at The Settegast-Kopf Co. @ Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land (Williams Trace Exit), with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, September 4, 2014, at St. Laurence Catholic Church, 3100 Sweetwater Blvd., Sugar Land, with the Rev. Tom Hawxhurst, Celebrant. The Rite of Committal will follow at 1:00 PM, at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr., Houston, with full military honors.

Ed transferred to Knights of Columbus Council 7728 and immediately chaired a fundraiser which lasted for many, many years. He and Lynn were major contributors of time, talent, and treasure. God blessed us with this couple.
