I will always remember meeting Eddie out running one day. I was training to run in my first marathon and we just happen to meet up at Bakersfield College one day. We chatted for a few minutes and I told him I was running in my first marathon. He gave me some great tips on training. He suggested I train by running the stadium steps and doing "hills" as he put it. I was amazed what great physical shape he was in. I had seen him running quite a bit and being a teacher I had seen him around...

My wife Kathy and I wish to send our condolences to the Lujan family.
"Chief" was two years ahead of me at Arvin high. I didn't know him well, but I was well aware of his running accomplishments.
A year or two ago the wife and I were shopping in Gottschalks. I was hanging around while Kathy tried on clothes. Eddie was also "hanging" around waiting for his wife. Before I knew it, Eddie and I were in deep conversation! We found out the two of us had attended Arvin High. That...

Just today I caught up with the obits in the Californian. I was at Myrtle Beach last week, and my wife Peggy had knee replacement surgery this week, so my daily routine of checking got behind. Eddie was a dear friend of mine. I took lots of runs with him. I know he will be missed greatly.
A lot of us old runners are approaching the finish line. It is important that we are prepared to meet the One there who provided salvation for us. We want to hear Him say, "Good...

Our neighborhood is not the same without the chief.
I would spot Eddie near the end of my daily runs. Tired and worn out as I was, I would always perk up and attempt good form for show, fishing for praise. I always got it, along with encouragement and warmth. He will be greatly missed, and his quirky character will not be forgotten, even by casual acquaintances like me!

I was shocked to see that Eddie Lujan passed away last week. Eddie always had a smile on his face and a word of encouragement for everyone he met. He was always willing to take the time to help everyone young and old. When I was coaching at CSUB I took my team to Hart Park to run the hills. It was the first day of the season and Eddie was finishing a 15 mile run. He greeted me with the usual " Hi, Coach- How's it going?" I told him I was bringing my team to get some hill running in for...

Be Still
Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.
Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.
If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.
