Byles Memorial Home - New London Obituary

Edward M. (Ed) Silva, 82 of Groton, entered eternal life on February 10, 2023 at the Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London. Ed was born July 4, 1940 in Norwalk, Connecticut to Jaquim and Isabel DaSilva. He married Joyce Piccione, she survives him.

Immediately after high school, Ed proudly served in the US Navy and was honorably discharged.

Ed met the love of his life Joyce in kindergarten. Yes, kindergarten. When they were 13, he bought her a friendship ring, that she still wears to this day. On November 14, 1959 he married his soulmate whom he had been a caregiver to for the past 7 years. His very last words to her as weak as he was, were “I love you”.

Together they raised three daughters, Michele Junget of Waterbury, Melissa Buttermore of The Villages, Florida and Melanie (Darryn) Dyer of Gales Ferry; six grandchildren Kelly Buttermore, Jeanne, Dain and Chantal Junget, Christopher and Tyler Dyer. As well as his great grandchildren Chase, Emma and Jack.

He was predeceased by his brother Robert whom along with his parents will greet him home.

Ed was a devoted family man and friend to many. His door was always open to all and everyone had a seat at his table. He said the most important thing was to be a good person. Ed was ‘good people’.

Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ed’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 (www.stjudes.org).

Not sure what to say?

Ed, Joyce and the girls were a big part of my very happy childhood on the boat at Spicer´s Marina in Noank. Ed was the source of a lot of laughs and a ton of food every weekend. I miss his sausage patties on the grill. Thanks for the memories Ed. Dave Filardi Jr. (805) 390-9085 in case the girls read this. Get in touch.

We were so sad to read that Eddie has passed away. Did not know until I tried to contact him! May he rest in peace as we have so many fond memories together!! Carmine, Anna & family.

Ed was a great family man and friend. He will be missed.

Joyce and family,
I was simply heartbroken to read of Ed's passing! I always looked forward to seeing you both during homevisits and I most especially enjoyed discussing politics! Kindred spirits, we were, in that respect! I so appreciated the love you shared for each other and your beautiful family, it radiated from you and I could feel it as soon as I walked into your lovely home. God bless you, Joyce.

You and your family have my deepest sympathy. You have many wonderful memories with him. Treasure them all. It’s also great that he was able to meet your children. ❤

What a great neighbor Ed was, from when he supervised the building of their home to caring diligently for the landscaping/yard work......He seemed to love being outdoors and being helpful to others. He had a joke or saying for just about every situation. He was a family man always. He will be missed.

Ed was a great person. He'll be missed.

Michelle, JJ, DJ, and Chantel. I am so sorry about the passing of your loved one. Please pass on my condolences to the entire family.
