Edward Whitney Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

THE REV. EDWARD B. WHITNEY The Rev. Edward B. Whitney, founder of Knowing Jesus Ministries, died October 15, 2006. He and his wife, Joann, were married over 35 years and their greatest desire was to teach about Jesus and how to have a personal relationship with Him. He graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management. He was an avid Georgia Tech fan who enjoyed cheering on the Jackets with his family. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was a proud American who loved politics and the country that had given him so many opportunities. Ed was loved by his family: Joann Whitney, his wife; Matthew Edward, his son and wife Jennifer, Courtney Ann Breban, his daughter and husband Abner and grandson Caleb. He passionately loved his wife Joann of 35 years. Their romance began in the fall of 1969 at the Georgia Tech - Clemson football game. They shared many wonderful moments together and they grew more in love each year. The Rev. Whitney lived a life of humility that sought to give rather than receive. He loved to listen and pray for anyone who came across his path. He truly loved others more that he loved himself. He was an Elder at Liberty Church in Marietta, GA where he faithfully served the church and his pastor John Fichtner. He loved to share about the faithfulness of God and the power of God's Word. He was the author of Treasures in Heaven, sharing his testimony and about how he learned spiritual principles from the Word of God. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to his ministry, Knowing Jesus Ministries, 2605 Valencia Drive, Marietta, Georgia 30062. A celebration of Rev. Whitney's life will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18 at Liberty Church, 1285 North Cobb Parkway, Marietta, Georgia 30062. Interment will follow on Thursday, October 19 at 11 a.m. at the Georgia National Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 17 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Patterson's Canton Hill Chapel. Arrangements by H.M. Patterson & Son, canton Hill Chapel, 1157 Old Canton Road, N.E., Marietta, GA 30068 (770) 977-9485.
