Not sure what to say?

Maryanna, I was saddened to hear that Ed's galant fight with cancer had finally come to an end. I did not know him as well as some, but I was greatly impressed with his interest in and knowledge,of history. I also thank you for including us at his birthday celebration last year, it gave me a chance to know him even better. The world is not a just place,It is just a place,It was just a better place , when Ed was here.Sincerely, Tim Veise

We are so sorry! Your family is in our prayers. I will always remember his kindness to our boys! They loved the day that he took them out on his boat!

We are so sorry for your loss. Your family is in our prayers.

Mary Anna Newman,
Condolences are extended you, the family and friends. I got to know Ed's dad when I first started search for the
USN Armed Guard WW II Veterans. He was one of the Armed Guard GREATEST HEROES and a friend.I hope you finish writing his dad's memoirs. You can GOOGLE: USN ARMED GUARD WW II and see what the Unit did in WW II.

I am sad that Ed is no longer with us, but am grateful for the time in recent months that I got to spend with you, Mary Anna, and Ed in Beaufort and Morehead City. Despite his pain and discomfort, he was a pleasure to be with and always seemed to enjoy company and spirited conversation. I've always enjoyed his company dating back to the RT days. You and your family are in my thoughts, and I will see you next Sunday in Raleigh.

Mary Anna and Cecelia, I was so very sorry to see this. Please know you and your families are in my prayers. I have so many fond memories of working with Ed. What an exceptional human being.

Ed and I worked together on the copy desk at The News & Observer in Raleigh. I didn't he was ill and regret he had so short a time to enjoy retirement. Ed was a fine fellow, well-read with a subtle sense of humor, and an ace journalist. May he rest in peace.

I am so very sorry to learn of Ed's passing. Mary Anna, my thoughts are with you and your family. Ed was a fine man.

I was sad and shocked to see Ed's obituary, not having even known he was ailing. What a thoroughly decent, understated, erudite man--the kind I hope they're still making, somewhere. MaryAnna and all, you have my sympathy and I'll hope to see you at the memorial.
