Effie Kapothanasis Obituary

WESTBROOK – WESTBROOK – Mrs. Effie Kapothanasis of Westbrook, passed away peacefully on the morning of Jan. 4, 2019, five days after her beloved husband Charlie Kapothanasis. Born as Effie Nicholas in Detroit, Mich. on Jan. 24, 1928. She moved to Portland with her family in 1955.. Born as Effie Nicholas in Detroit, Mich. on Jan. 24, 1928. She moved to Portland with her family in 1955.She met her husband in 1957 at Olympia Restaurant on Congress Street and it was truly love at first sight and they were married a week later. The two were blessed to share a story book life together for 61 years. Their union was so strong it was obvious that they became one in their marriage, the truest example of a loving marriage. Together they doted on their three sons, Christo, Paul and Tasso. Her sons described her as a mother to many, offering her love and care to relatives and friends. She would open up the doors to their home on Washington Ave., commonly referred to as "Villa Effie" and it would be a sanctuary for all. She will be remembered by her family as a woman who was all heart, very compassionate, loving, selfless, gracious. She was also very internally strong and supportive of her husband in all his business endeavors. She was a very spiritual women and was forever urging everyone to get to church. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Portland. When all three sons became altar boys, she would reassure them that "you cannot die as long as you're in the church". Effie is survived by their sons, Christo and his wife Kim, Paul and his wife Irene, and Tasso and his wife Valentina; their grandchildren, Christie, Costas, James, Gregory, Alexander, Nicolette, Anastasia and Evangelo; and their great-grandchildren, Ellie and Christo. Also, by her sister, Anna Morrell and her children William, Tommy, Timmy and Madeline. She was predeceased by her husband, Charlie and her brothers Nick, Spero and sister Dixie.A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, Jan. 5, at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Portland at 10 a.m. You may offer your condolences or share your memories at www.jonesrichandbarnes.com.
