Efstathia N. Hios, 99
1924 - 2023
Lynn - Efstathia Hios, age 99, of Lynn, passed away surrounded by her loved ones early Wednesday morning February 22, 2023. She was the beloved wife of the late Nikolaos Hios with whom she shared 56 years of marriage. Born in Kastorion, Laconia, Greece, Efstathia was the daughter of (the late) Haralambos and Rigoula (Kaliani) Krambovitis. She leaves behind her two sons Steven and his wife Kiryaki Hios of Lynnfield, and Haralambos Hios of Lynn, and daughter Valerie Belesis and her husband Peter of Marblehead; her six grandchildren whom she adored: Stratos, Nick, John (and his wife Selena), and Effie Hios, Steven, Maria and Nickolas Belesis as well as several nieces and nephews both in the States and in Greece. She was also the doting great-grandmother of Octavio and Helena DeOliveira, and Ethan, Mia, and Sophelia Hios. Equally important in Efstathia's life was the tremendous love and bond she shared with her beloved siblings Panagiota, Gianoula, and Dimitra, and the late Maria, Stamatoula, Panagiotis and Dimitrakis. Efstathia grew up in Kastorion, Laconia, Greece, a beautiful mountain village in the Peloponnese. The second eldest of eight, Efstathia left her small village as a young adult and moved to Athens where she pursued a career as a seamstress. In 1968, at the age of 44, she and her husband made the ultimate sacrifice for their children and immigrated to the United States in pursuit of a better life. It was here in Lynn where she and her husband found a strong Greek community and raised their family, and where she worked as a devoted employee of Holiday Brand until her retirement. As the Matriarch of the family, the thing she cherished most was spending time with her children and grandchildren.
