Elizabeth Darwin Obituary

Elizabeth Lucille "Betty" Darwin was called home by our Lord Jesus on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at age 78 years. She was a lifelong resident of New Orleans, and a member of First English Lutheran Church in Metairie. She was preceded in death by her father, Elmer Neal Darwin, Jr. and her mother, Lucille Gonzalez Darwin. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Darwin Cross (Douglas); her brother, Elmer N. Darwin (Dianne); her niece, Nicole Roach Forrest (Steven); and nephew, Gerald "Jerry" Thomas Roach. Professionally, Elizabeth was a legal secretary, who near to her retirement worked at First English Lutheran Church, and Peace Lake Towers part-time. She enjoyed working with the elderly at church and at Peace Lake Towers. She was an active member of her church, where she was a member of the Lutherans in Fellowship Together group, and was a former Sunday school teacher. Betty also loved gardening, especially spring bulbs, and was a member of the Louisiana Master Gardeners. She was an avid reader, and a true animal lover. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at First English Lutheran Church, 3701 Cleary Ave. in Metairie, on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at 12:00PM. A visitation will be held at the church beginning at 10:00AM. The interment will follow the service at Lake Lawn Park. The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff of Notre Dame Hospice, and especially to Sister Ann Marie for her beautiful songs she would sing with my mom. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Betty's memory to ARNO (Animal Rescue of New Orleans), 271 Plauche St., New Orleans, LA 70123, www.animalrescueneworleans.org and / or to First English Lutheran Church, 3701 Cleary Ave., Metairie, LA 70002, www.firstenglishmetairie.com.
