Read MoreOne summer my husband and I parked our camper at Elwaine's. A most memorable summer it was! Often we would pick up a pie from a pie maker on 147 and bring it up to Elwaine's house. Out came the ice cream and a laugh-filled afternoon. One of the dogs, Choc-dog, made a comfortable bed for himself under the camper. One of a kind? Oh, yes, Elwaine was that. A most wonderful kind.

I remember how he used to bring his animals to our work. Sad to hear of his passing, he was a unique person!

Oh, the good times we had with Elwaine! We would stop at Sybil Ketchum's for a pie and head up Coot Hill to enjoy the afternoon with Elwaine and the pups. I have been waiting for him to return my last phone call. Life is not as bright tonight.
