Elwaine Jay Guilder
April 9, 1945 - March 18, 2024
ARGYLE - Elwaine Guilder, 78, passed away Monday, March 18, 2024, at his home. Born April 9, 1945, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Albert Guilder and Shirley (Saunders) Peregrim.
Elwaine was a free spirit who enjoyed life with his many passions. He was always up for an adventure with seemingly no boundaries. He was a self-proclaimed "Pragmatic Problem Solver", mechanic, craftsman, millwright and welder.
He generously shared life's practical knowledge, a quip to make you laugh, and selflessly helped anyone who needed it. He never went anywhere without a dog, or four. Shirt, shoes, and sometimes clothing were generally optional.
Much of what he is legendary for is not suitable for print. He was one-of-a-kind who lived life on his own terms.
In addition to his parents, Elwaine was predeceased by his brother, Roy Guilder; and his dogs: Jeff, Molly, General, Fuzzy Face, Holly, Pepper, Domino, Sassafras, Rigel, Runner, Jackson, Murphy, Sally, Dexter, Daisy, and Choc Dog. Left to cherish his memory include his daughters: Kimberley Guilder and Caryn (Guilder) Yost; his grandchildren: Pantelis, Elijah, Maria, Loryn and Olivia; siblings: Ronnie Guilder, Bonnie (Guilder) Caprood and Ralph Guilder; many cherished great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins; and his remaining dogs: Soful and Smiley.
At Elwaine's request, there will be no services. His only request was for Kilmer to drive fast enough to get a speeding ticket on the way to the crematory.

One summer my husband and I parked our camper at Elwaine's. A most memorable summer it was! Often we would pick up a pie from a pie maker on 147 and bring it up to Elwaine's house. Out came the ice cream and a laugh-filled afternoon. One of the dogs, Choc-dog, made a comfortable bed for himself under the camper. One of a kind? Oh, yes, Elwaine was that. A most wonderful kind.

I remember how he used to bring his animals to our work. Sad to hear of his passing, he was a unique person!

Oh, the good times we had with Elwaine! We would stop at Sybil Ketchum's for a pie and head up Coot Hill to enjoy the afternoon with Elwaine and the pups. I have been waiting for him to return my last phone call. Life is not as bright tonight.
